Took Pappy down to INDE today in Willcox Arizona. One of the most beautiful tracks in America.
It was my first time on the track in the ACR, I just completed the break in miles. It was 2 seconds faster than my prepped, 250 lb lighter '13 Viper. (2.2 mile track)
By the 2nd lap, the ACR gave me a LOT of confidence over my '13 which led to 3 spins, one was pretty brutal. The interior filled up with tumbleweeds. My right arm has a rash just from what hit it INSIDE the car. LOL.
I was traveling a lot faster through the turns but it didn't feel like it and didn't realize it. I push my '13 10/10ths and run the car really loose through the turns and can always correct my slides, but doing the same in the ACR at higher speeds (I switched traction control all the way off) led me to spins that I was not able to correct like I can on my '13. I was a little timid after that, but only ran half a second slower.
I'm running custom 18" wheels and 335's up front and the car was tail happy which I expected. My whole concept of running the 335's up front was to be able to put more downforce in the wing which most track guys have not done due to too much understeer. 295 millimeters is just way too small of a front tire for this car.

You got that right that it is a beautiful track. Top notch all around.

Glad you are alright and the tumbleweeds just left you with a rash. I would think the ACR comes in really helpful where you get those elevation changes about 3/4 of the way around the track (I forget exactly which turn and it depends on the configuration but some of the guys here will know). Did you notice yourself being able to stay on the throttle more after you crest that hill and come into that deep hook of a turn?

Glad you are OK. Was there any damage to the car?

Love the solid Billet Silver --- it needs nothing and still looks super purposeful and sinister!

Thanks for the comment Bill, and thank you Arizona Vipers for the invite to come out an play. Looks like the 335/345X18 Hoosiers are the hot ticket. I was on stock Kuhmos and they did far better than I expected. Good times!

Take it a step back. Run 9/10th you will end up faster without trying as hard and not spin. Aero is very precise and can be unforgiving in the right fast turn. Spinning is never a good thing

Yes, I even had to shift to 3rd right there, normally wouldn't get out of 2nd there.

Yes. I hear a lot of rocks going through the caliper though. I need to check for barrel scoring next time I have the wheels off. I'll report back in the other thread about 18's on ACR's.

How would I know what 9/10ths are until I take it to 10/10ths and spin? hehe. And yeah i took it down a notch, especially after I was told the front splitter costs $10K. That's nuts.

Glad you are getting to know the limits of your new beast! I like your passion. Sounds like an eventful maiden voyage. Like you, my first instinct is to go hard out of the gate. On a new track (or in a new car haha) I'm trying to do what Steve suggests and take it back a notch to master the car and line then increase gradually. Hard to do but worth the effort.

I am in Arizona now, just spent three days at Bondurant in a private lesson with Justin Bell. Well, semi private as my bud Loyde joined us. Damn it was 99 degrees today, feels like dead of summer lol

Yeah, I also noticed it was only 99 today, so I turned the AC in my garage off to try and save a little energy. How long will you be in PHX?

As,long as I've been in Arizona (since I was 10months old) I swear I've seen where it cooled down in early October and then swings back up in mid to late October before cooling down again. About 12 years ago I was working outside and remeber it was hitting 103 at this time.

Sounds like fun though. I've heard those classes are great.
