I was fortunate to visit Conner Avenue this past Friday to pickup my TA! It was another experience I will never forget. A BIG Kudos to John Gastman from Roanoke. I have bought several cars from John in the past and it has always been an exceptional experience from beginning to end. John is such a humble individual and I am so glad to be able to provide him the business.

Here we go.....PREFIX:

What an experience to be granted verse just picking up from the dealership. Means a lot to get presented a car of your dreams from the factory and the people that build it. The Prefix pics are awesome, especially if your are a paint/body buff. Great pics!

Wait...

Are you sure? I always thought it was primer, base coat, stripes, clear. Look at the rig on the yellow one. This has the clear already applied and I could have sworn they used that rig to apply the stripes. There's two more in that room and a rear fascia painted black with white stripes. It seems silly to paint stripes like that. (primer, stripes, clear, paint, clear?)

Also can't rule out special schemes like F2V's car.

Thanks everyone.

Horsepower wars aside, this car is like no other car on the planet. You should see the workers at Prefix meticulously hand sanding every square inch of each individual panel of this car. The QC is simply amazing. Just a little pencil tip flaw (literally) during the process, and its redone. All the panels for the same car are painted at the same time to ensure they are a 100% guaranteed match. I was amazed at how much pride Prefix takes in the paint on these cars.....and no orange peel....unbelievable!!!

And then there are the wonderful folks are Conner. Everyone I met really seemed to take pride in their responsibilities to build this car. You really begin to realize how special this car is considering it's low volume (6 per day), quality control, hand built, and extreme attention to detail. I don't care if a robot may be able to do some things a little more precisely, this car is personal from beginning to end and it feels good to support the people building it.

Sure, you may be able to buy a high end Z06/ZR1 Vette (great car!) that has similar performance and costs less, but to me, there is simply no comparison. It is amazing to think we can still buy an exclusive extremely low volume hand built American muscle car!!! I'm lovin it! :)

I'm positive that's what they told us. In fact, he said the process used to be primer, base, stripes, clear, but they changed it for the Gen V. They apply the stripe color first, tape off the stripes, and then body color paint, and finally clear. I also remember him saying those panels are going to have "red stripes", but he couldn't specify the exact body color just by looking.

Yes, the process you describe is how they used to do prior Gen's. Gen5 are done this new way. very cool to see a shot of in in process.

So what happens after the unveiling, do they hand you the keys and you drive home? Does it come with a full tank of gas or did you put the car in a closed hauler and take it across state? Have SRT repeated the camera trick that the 1998 GT2 cars had for the T/A models?

Yes, pretty much. I have a 1/2 tank of gas. Weather was horrible in Detroit so I was able to pull my enclosed trailer inside the plant to load and drove back to NC.

When you arrive at the plant, you do some paperwork, meet some great people, watch a couple Viper videos to get you pumped, take a tour of the plant, and unveil your car. The process is ~ 2 hours. Unforgettable experience!

This is my 3rd factory delivery. I'm not certain if it was done during their lunch break (~1:00), but having the factory workers present was a first for me. I trailered it home....12 hour drive but worth it! :)

My CAAP delivery was definitely one of those unforgettable moments. They really should make this optional for every Viper custom ordered. Thanks for sharing the pics!

was the caap store open?

Not yet. The structure of the store is finished, but there is next to no merchandise. They are still working on the approvals to stock the store, etc. Too bad cause I was expecting to take home a bunch of goodies.

Your car is a real beauty, but I am partial to those black snakes. Wow, thanks for sharing the experience with us.

Awesome experience :) I can see why Leslie is selling her current Viper, that blue looks pretty close to the Sapphire Blue on her GTS.

While not a Gen V, I picked up my first Viper at CAAP almost 17 years ago. They were running the Prowler engineering protos at the time so we got to see how those moved down the line as well. Definitely an experience every Viper owner should take advantage of. Worst part of the trip was avoiding the numerous potholes between CAAP and the more civilized highways that seemed far outside of Detroit.

WOW, now those are some awesome photos! A throwback to the original B/W coupes. Thanks for posting!!! Have any more?

Great photos COI! Interesting how much darker (even accounting for exposure perhaps?) the two pictures are from 1997 compared with how the place looks today. I'm amazed at how well lit the plant is now.

no wonder why the cars in 97 were hit and miss for finish. they were in the dark.

That, Conner Delivery, is exactly what needs to be offered with new Viper sales. Take it one step further and wrap it into a 1 day New SRT Viper Driving Experience / Excursion then ship the car home or drive it. P car does it, why not?

Factory lighting has been made much brighter for Gen V production.

Great experience, Brian.

I was not able to get CAAP delivery worked out but I did get to sneak in one day while mine was on the line. It was a great time and everyone was very friendly and very proud to be building the 5.

Here is a couple shots of my day

The Prefix pics look like guys working in a prison shop class..... just IMO Well said and it was a disgrace a few years ago when they did a TV show on the Viper factory right after a show on a European car factory where all the assembly people where in very nice spotless uniforms.
