View Full Version : Wrap or paint interior silver trim
I've been looking for a Gen 5 for a few weeks now and although I have not seen the carbon fiber interior option in person, I have seen 3 cars with the base silver interior trim and I'm 99% certain it won't work for me.
I'm not obsessed with the CF itself, I just don't care for the silver look. I really wish they would have had a matte black option of some kind for the interior.
Obviously, no offense meant to folks happy with their silver interior trim.
That being said, the CF interior option isn't really realistic cost-wise to add after the fact.
Even if it was the same price to purchase direct from Mopar, it would be hard for me to pay $100k for a car and then possibly pull the entire interior out of it.
From the factory it was/is a $3,400 option, so it seems to be fairly rare, and only on highly optioned cars. Needless to say, finding a CF interior optioned car has been a challenge.
tl;dr: Does anyone have experience either covering interior trim in vinyl and/or getting them painted by a shop? Any idea on what that might cost?
Could be experience with a different car...not necessarily a Viper. Just wondering if it went well, what works/worked, what did/didn't.
Thanks in advance,
Don

Since you are in the market, the best thing to do is get the interior you want with your purchase as you are correct in that it gets very expensive to go aftermarket. I'd bet there are a fair amount of loaded used GTS cars with the carbon fiber accents for sale no?

Thanks for the reply.
Loaded GTS with the CF interior is probably on 10-15% of the GTS cars I see. Maybe 20-25% of ACR's (GTC)?
BTW, using the Chrysler Window Sticker lookup has been a godsend: http://www.chrysler.com/hostd/windowsticker/getWindowStickerPdf.do?vin=1C3BDEDZ9HV500048
Many cars for sale (even new ones) have incorrect pictures posted, generic base option lists (even on fully optioned GTS cars)...so I paste the VIN into the URL and I get the full option list straight away.
Due to the challenge of finding a car with the CF interior, I'm starting to lean towards just getting the right car for me otherwise, and ignoring the silver interior for now.
Down the road if it really gets to me I think I could come up with something.

I added all of the oem exterior carbon fiber to my GTS but was not crazy about the matte interior cf. I think you mean champagne color for the OEM gts interior bits. Xtremesupercarsinc@gmail.com makes quite a few pieces as well--I added xtreme cf door sill guards and engine beauty covers.

I think the exterior cf is the most crucial as the OEM exterior carbon is truly beautiful and worth every penny of the tic box. I think one can more easily replicate the interior. Don, what about ordering a new GTC? You can order exactly the car you want.

Champagne, that was the name, thanks.

I'm not sure that the CF interior would be easier to replicate than the exterior.
Interior option is $3400, and I have heard estimates to buy the parts from Mopar to be $8000+, and not all the pieces are available. There's also the effort involved to swap the parts to consider.
The exterior bezels, splitter, spoiler and rear appliqué appear to be ordersble from Mopar and at a bit of discount from aftermarket /non OEM (mixed reports of quality).
I believe ALL new orders have not been accepted since 10/7.
I've considered ordering a new car if they open it back up. Really excited to do factory delivery. Not sure if I could keep myself from ordering a crazy color even though I plan to DD the viper.

Regardless of whether you order new, choose from new dealer stock or buy used, if I were you I would not settle on anything that I was not 100% certain I could live with.
Carbon fiber doesn't make my socks roll up and down, so considering whether or not a car had it was not even a slight concern of mine. But I see your points and believe they are valid, you are spending too much money to settle. Wait and get what you want. The right car will come along.

Don I definitely hear you on the oem initial price. The carbon really gets expensive aftermarket. Since you have a specific carbon look you want you could consider making a looking to buy post. I'm sure a few members have mint interior carbon vehicles they would consider selling as long as you liked the overall car and they like the price. If my TA came with interior carbon id be all over it. Like you, I'm not too keen on piecing together the whole kit. You will find your car, no doubt about it.

I'm with Terminator, buy the exact car you want, it's too much money to settle. And the carbon options are a must on these cars IMO.

Making sure you saw this thread. Read the entire thing. I believe there will be a carbon fiber for the silver rings etc.

I am going to leave silver until I can come up with a method and material to truly replace the parts. Not a big fan of non functional stuff and I just cant do the wrapping of interior components.
