View Full Version : Thoughts on tow hooks...Most economical solution?

I'm considering getting a tow hook. I'd prefer a front tow hook but would consider a rear, and I'd love to a front hook powder coated orange (if you can do colors) to match the car, but I suppose just having one is more important than the aesthetics...
Is there any advantage to front vs. rear or is it just personal preference? I saw the viper store tow hook for $350.. seems kind of high, and I see the Ipsco tow hook but I can't tell what theirs looks like installed because the Gen V pic isn't on the car. I don't want it to stick out..
Are there any other options? I looked on eBay and I see tons of cheap stuff, but I can't tell the good stuff from the junk..
The goal is to get the car ready for a track day, and I wouldn't be out there every weekend, but maybe twice a year...

Mark at Woodhouse did mine. I LOVE it. He did tell me that it was not an exact match to TA orange.... it's so close though you can't really tell. I like it better than black bc it's a little more noticeable and breaks up the black in the grill. Doesn't really stick out much at all

Buy the one from Mark. Tow hook isn't something to cheap out on.

I can't seem to find it on their site, do you happen to know where it's listed for sale?

Interested as well. Is this an easy install?

Do both front and rear. IPSCO makes both. I have two black ones on the front and 2 in the rear. I use them to tie the car down on my trailer but either way you should have one front and rear. The rear is under the car and is pretty much invisible.

Great idea George! Wonder if this will work with the ACR-E diffuser...

That I can't tell you. I did have them on my Gen 4 ACR and they worked fine on that car. I don't have a Gen 5 ACR (everyone can feel sorry for me) but they work on my TA without the diffusers.

would you mind posting a pic of the rear installations when you have time?
I have heard the rear tow hooks will NOT work on a genV ACR EXTREME. I have a non-extreme and have the rear hooks with no issues.

Keep in mind that the diffuser is an aerodynamic device. It is most effective when it maintains laminar airflow across its diverging surface. Any protrusion or obstruction will disrupt that airflow and decrease the efficiency of that part of the diffuser - how much that will actually affect rear downforce or balance I can't quantify.

You can call me I have the fronts in stock in black or can have them custom colored for additional cost. The rear hooks do not work with the Extreme diffusers as they cover the ends of the frame rails.

Send Mark Johnson an email to ask about options for an ACR-E. He owns IPSCO. mjohnson@ipsco.org (.org not .com)
Edit: Posted this before I saw Mark J's response.

Ipsco is a sponser. Front hook $200 rears are $49 per side. Woodhouse get their hooks from Ipsco and have their name put on them.

True, but actually IPSCO puts our name on them LOL. We never branded these as OURS, Mark makes great parts that is the only reason we love having him brand them for us. We have always encouraged supporting site sponsors, that is not exclusive to just me.

Is there a thread on the installation of the hooks for the front and rear?

Is the tow hook easily install/removable? Id never want it sticking out of the grill 24/7. I see all these stupid Hondas around town with those damn tow hooks... makes me shudder.

So, I'm a little confused. The tow hook on the TA at the top of the thread seems to stick out a bit further than I would like. Is that the only Gen V tow hook? I was looking at the IPSCO site and I only see one Gen V front tow hook and the pic doesn't show it installed. I want to get the cheapest shortest front tow hook :)

From the top this is how much the hook sticks out, just enough to actually be able to get a hook on it...

With the Gen V motor potential "issues" tow hooks should be standard equipment. Seriously....how are you going to get the car up onto a flatbed if you're dead in the water without scraping up under your fascia in the front? They look nice too.

It does stick out a bit, I was thinking it would look good in orange but now Im not so sure, thinking black is the way to go... so I assume this is the same Woodhouse/Ipsco tow hook, but are there any others or is it just this one item only for the Gen V?

Not sure if there is another option, but this product has the best location and strength IMHO.

So some dumb questions... they come in black, right? Is yours the same price as the Ipsco (which is the same item, right?)

Yes for black or silver, custom colors are more.

Yes many buyers use it to winch them into race trailers.

How much for a custom color?

Custom powder coating by the time I take it to them figure the color wait for it and then return to get it cost $70.

Lol economical solution? It would suck to cheap out and have the thing destroy your front bumper if it snaps or is not in a solid location. Bumper is 1K plus paint...I would suggest you go strong and well built in a proven location, remember this thing is supposed to RESCUE your car in case something happens.
