Let me start by saying I do not promote texting and driving, or distracted driving. I am also not responsible for your mistakes what so ever.
After I got my Viper I ran into my first issue, WHERE DO I PUT MY PHONE?!?!? I use my phone for music in the car, I also plan to use it for a lap timer.
Here is what I came up with.

After 100 miles of back roads It has been perfect. The magnet is more than strong enough to keep it stationary on big bumps.
To mount it all you do is stick it to the plastic in front of the OO SHIT handle.
Hope I am not breaking any rules by posting the link (I am not affiliated or gaining ANYTHING by listing this)

Not real elegant since it blocks some controls, but the Gen V is somewhat limited on a place to mount your phone. I'm betting after you live with it for a while you may find a better spot. :)

Same magnet holder but I put mine here so I could plug in the wire that runs into my usb connection between the seats. I'm very happy with it.

My phone rests in the spot behind the cup holders where it's plugged into the USB port.
Unless you're using a magnet with Herculean strength you're risking a phone flying around your car if it's there on a track day. I would want something more secure than that before hitting the track.

I will let you know how it holds up on track after the weekend!
Looks good mercer, I was thinking of putting it there but didn't want to block the tweeter

I don't think there's any way it would fall off the magnet unless I flipped the car. It's pretty strong.

Keep it away from your watch, if it is mechanical. It will magnetize it. Allan

This is what I use. http://www.lifeproof.com/en-us/lifeactiv-bike-mount/lpla-qms-bikemount.html?dwvar_lpla-qms-bikemount_color=20#start=2 It uses both a magnet and a manual lock to keep it from coming off. I had to modify the connector a bit to go around the grab handle but it works perfectly and does not block anything. I have the matching adhesive mount on my iphone case and my solo DL so I can mount whichever I need at the time.

That's exactly where I put mine, i just have it sitting on a crunched up paper towel, leaning against the stereo. LOL
So I take it the magnet can't hurt a cell phone's internals in any way?

Looks good, I was worried about marring the leather on the handle with a wrap around mount like that. Do you see any marks after long use?

Cant hurt it at all, another cool thing is I bought one for my daily and since its all the same mount it works great!

I just removed the mount and sold the car a couple of weeks ago so I know for sure. No marks after being mounted for over a year continuously. I too have a matching mount in my daily. :)

How did you modify the connector? Can you give me an idea, this is something I definitely want to do to mine, thanks!

The bar mount is not quite large enough to attach to the grab handle so I simply removed the metal adjustment clip and replaced it with a larger one I made out of a piece of wire the same diameter. Took all of 5 minutes and most of that was bending the wire.

Not as elegant but you can see where I "mount" mine in the video below. I use a type of double sided tape from 3M (I can check what it is exactly later if needed). This tape does not leave any mark when I am done on the phone or the dash. Obviously I only do this for long road trips or track days.
