Obscure question probably, but I'm interested to know how these two tires perform on a rolling punch from anywhere from 30mph to 60mph. The NT05R from what I gather, is designed to have a quick burn out for dig racing and so I'm curious to know how they perform without the obligatory burn out on the roll. The R888's aren't even designed for exclusive straight line racing but from my readings can be used effectively for such. So, in regards to dig racing im sure the nt05r's are superior, but how do the two stack up to each other without any warm up other than cruising speed temps? Lets keep the hp/tq in question to a max of 700rwhp/tq and below to keep things simple. This is also assuming ambient temps anywhere from 60-100 degrees. big windows, I know, but try and humor me.
In summary, 700rwhp/tq or less, 30-60mph punch, no warm up, 60-100 degree outside temps, 345 30 19....which tire will hook better?
I don't drag race, but have run R888s quite a bit on the track. They definitely require a full warm-up lap, so I'd have to believe they aren't very good as a drag tire. They are also very squirmy at full tred depth' I always had them shaved to 3/32".

Yes, ive heard that on some other sites. Im getting thrown though due to some guys running the r888 with good success. One example is Sneaky Snake with the orange bolt on gen 4. He has even changed to 3.55s and seems to be doing well with the r888 on the roll. Im wondering if there is room for improvement if he went with the nt05r or not. You have others like Nineball that are all about the nt05r, though for that example i think he uses them more for dig. Not sure though. Not sure if either guys have used both tires for rolls without warm up.

How do mpsc2 tires compare to the r888 and nt05r?
Can someone do a 123 comparison, 1 being best.
A comparison for street, street drag racing, track, drag strip racing.
Thanks.

Sweet mercy those are expensive! $637.41 on tirerack for 345 30 19. Did these just come out? Ive heard of the original cups but not the cup 2s. Nice size selection for 19s. They would have to be leaps and bounds ahead of the r888s to warrant that price. Near 50% more $ than r888. To make their value for me, they would have to out grip the r888s and nt05r in straight line rolls and outshine the r888s in autocross. That is a tall order.

For any interested, im trying to decide if i want to street the r888s, using them for weekend cruising, highway rolls in mexico, and autocross every now and then. Jack of all trades, master of none, if you will. My other thought is to street the nt05r for cruises and mexico and have a dedicated set of 18" hoosier a7 for autocross. The later choice of running 2 separate sets of tires would probably perform better at their perspective events but the idea of not changing out tires is appealing to me too (in the case of the r888).
Im leaning to the nt05r/a7 option as of now, but if substantial evidence arises proving the r888 a worthy mexico roll contender to the nt05r then i might reconsider. The A7s will undoubtedly out perform the r888 in autocross but i dont go to autocross so much to be competitive as to just enjoy tossing the car about and learning to drive better.

Cups 2s have been out for awhile, the 2009 zr1 had them.

In my experience, MPSCs are a better track tire for a heavier car like the viper vs the R888s, as they tend to fall off much less per heat cycle. The R888s are good for the first heat cycle, then drop off quite fast' they are basically rocks after about 12 heat cycles. I've run MPSCs competitively in races with as many as 25 heat cycles; I once set a class record on a set with something like 19 heat cycles, which says something about their longevity.
Shaving to 3/32nds makes them both faster out of the gate. You might also consider the RA1; better than the R888, and can also be driven in the rain (MPSCs absolutely blow in the wet).

You might want to consider dropping to a 18, 345/30/18 MT ET Street SS hook like crazy, even without a burnout(much better with).

Good suggestion. I have thought of it. Im more hesitant on that because of all the warnings im hearing from getting caught in the rain with MT. They are overwhelmingly rated as the best cheater for performance but also rated as the worst to use on the street due to rain and cornering issues. I am looking to run these on the street for weekend cruises. Plus, i already have 19s.

Anyone else have input? Thoughts on r888 or nt05r grip without burnout/warm-up on a roll?

I run the 19" NT05R's currently on my Gen V. They hook well rolling from 60 hitting in second gear. (800whp) They only hook at 60 @1100whp when the power is ramped and I prefer to hit it in 3rd. And of course that's in the warm summer in Alabama.
I too would prefer an MT 18 or smaller wheel but have not yet invested.
