View Full Version : Valve covers. To paint or to powder coat?

I have my 08 torn apart and was planning to powder coat them GTS Blue. I found a company and was under the impression the cost was $220. Well once off I find its $440 because I have a gen 4 and there is an additional fee to do the coil covers as well.

With that being said $440 isn't worth it to me at this time so I was thinking about just painting them. It seems as if paint would be fine.

Anyone else painted theirs?

Thanks!

I am planning to powder coat mine GTS Blue as well. It holds up better than paint, so I figure the cost should be worth it.

Yeah I can understand that and for me that was the same reasoning but I can get them painted for basically nothing as I am going to have other parts painted anyways.

Here is the company I was going to deal with. I think that GTS Blue would be very difficult to match up and it seems these guys do have their process figured out.

Justin at JMB has been doing my powder coating for years.....:dude3:

A good quality paint job, with the correct prep work, will cost as much as powder coating...

Not to be a prick but this doesn't look very good. What's up with the wrinkle or imperfections towards the bottom?

the valve covers are pretty rough to begin with. magnesium is not easy to work with

This. The rough texture is in the magnesium, not in the coating. It is not as obvious as it looks in the pic.

I had mine painted GTS blue. No issues, been over a year now and a lot of miles and races.
