View Full Version : Need a new family car

I'm looking at a replacement for my old family car, which was a Buick LaSabre. I don't care for the new Buicks because they're smaller and narrower. I'm thinking the Lincoln MKS perhaps but I haven't driven one yet. The Lincoln MKZ is too small.
I know some will suggest the Chrysler 300, but I have driven those and they are not what I'm looking for.
Any suggestions?

I love my Daytona Charger 2013, sporty, good gas mileage and good power.

I recently picked up a 2014 Infiniti QX80; third row so it fits everyone. Theatre package is great for the kids. Probably the best family vehicle I've owned.

I would skip the SRT jeep if gas mileage is a concern, if not go for it especially since you live up north with snowy winters.

I can't say anything bad about our '12 Durango R/T and from what I have read the trans in the new one makes it even better. Realistic 16 mpg in town and 22-23 on the highway if I can keep it under 80. Much worse above 90, or so I've heard;)

There are sooo many good choices out there. Narrow it down some. Domestic or foreign?Crossover, SUV, car?? All wheel drive is really nice to have, many cars now have as an option.

I test drove the new Range Rover & loved the interior; it's larger than before, digital dash, turn dial shifter like the new Jag; but I prefer the exterior styling on the previous gen better.

It sounds like you want a lot of room if you are looking at the MKS. I'd suggest the Cadilliac XTS, it's interior is really comfy. Back seats have a lot of leg room, trunk space is amazing too...

Yes that is a great truck. It's on sale now as well, for 120K. They had them for 129K a few months ago but now with the change in year, they lowered them.

2014 Cadillac CTS was named MT car of the year. I'm waiting until they unveil the next CTS-V, which may replace my current one. Excellent vehicles, far better than the Lincolns. They drive and handle very well, as they were designed/tested by track enthusiasts.

Not a huge fan of GM but if that route is chosen its not such a bad idea to be the second owner as the depreciation is really significant.

^^ :web_driver:I fourth that lol. Not the best on gas but I love mine. It's in the shop getting completely rebuilt with Arrington performance parts and it has a procharger system on it set to 18lbs of boost. Hopefully numbers will be coming either this week or next week (waiting for the phone call to say its done!). But I love the thing!

Thanks for the comments.

Something like the Caddy suggestion. I did look at cadillacs a few years ago. I may have to look at them again. I would really rather go with an american brand, but I'm not married to that idea.

Though you mentioned you are not looking for an SUV, we have been seeing a ton of folks moving over from sedans to the new Jeep Grand Cherokee with the V6 and eight speed transmission.
The ride is insanely good and of course with weather like it can get in Illinois , it still will go anywhere. Been in the business for 22+ years and it is the single most surprising vehicle I have ever
sold as the bulk of the trade ins have been Land Rovers, BMWs, Mercedes, Lexus models. Never seen so many import trades and though the SRT8 is phenomenal, if you are concerned with mileage
and luxury , you really should consider a Grand Cherokee . Or if you want a bit more room , the V6 , 8 speed Durango -- Ron Burgundy says we are giving them away for free , but can't seem
to verify that on any of our rebate or finance programs.

I bought my son and I Jeep Grand Cherokees. The new ones have bigger screens, new tranny etc.To me they are more comfortable than my wife's Escalade at half the price.
The Durango is the real sleeper. Jeep gets all the buzz, but Durnago is as good and roomier. It suffers from history/perception but is a great choice.
I had an 09 CTS-V--first year of the current V--put 70K miles on --no issues unlike the M5 it replaced--ugh. Not sure the future of the V. There is a 14 though. Heard they might go twin turbo 6 but I may be behind in the news. Caddies are good cars.

AWD Cadillac CTS, Hyundai Genesis, Ford Taurus SHO, Lexus ES series. Auto shows are starting all around the country, best time to make a list and narrow down your search with a first hand look/see.

Those are only the "egged" ones.

I drove both the SHO, MKS, and Charger SRT8. Hands down the SRT8 was superior. Drive them all and go with what you like the most.
