I had the Rear Diffuser Blades installed this past weekend. I went with 5 blades instead of 6 like seen on the ACR. I thik 5 is a cleaner look for my Viper and not as aggressive. It was installed right on a lift and the stock diffuser was not taken off the vehicle.

Work was Done at Tune Time Performance in Lakewood NJ.

Sweet. I'd be interested to know what the measurements are... in my cart on eBay but haven't pulled the trigger yet bc of concern with mounting.

Looks sick Joey! I'll have to add it to the list when I drop mine off at TTP finally

I did this to my car.

I made one for a local owner, but he wrecked his viper 5 days after he bought. I have one made if anyone wants one.

Edit 6/8/2016: DIFFUSER IS SOLD

A must for any regular ACR's!

Can i ask what they charged for labor? You without a doubt need a lift to do this without taking the diffuser off....even then it would be very challenging to get accurate. I highly recommend an amateur taking the diffuser off.

For anyone interested, these are $25/blade on eBay. I installed these on my last 2 Vipers in my garage on jack stands without removing the diffuser.

Do they just screw into the existing one?

Looks cool! Has anyone noticed any difference on the track or at speed?

Do they just screw into the existing one?

3 holes per blade take a rivet. I put a washer behind each rivet. without the washer the rivet will eventually bust through the plastic. The other 2 holes per blade take bolts and fender washers.

By taking the diffuser off you can measure and remeasure before drilling holes. It also allows you to get washers behind your rivets too. I am not sure how you would install properly without removing. Any varience could affect the car at high speeds.

Simms, I noticed it cuts down on turbulence behind the car. Less dust on the bumper, but not gone. Having a white car i am sure you understand the struggle!

Yes they screw directly in.

IMO, Screwing them in is not a proper install.

Rivets with washers and bolts/nylon locknuts with fender washers is the only way to go.

Search "viper diffuser fins" on Ebay. $25 a piece made by a motorcycle fabricator. He does very good work.....

You can can reach the top side with your hand, not easy, but, doable. I installed mine with black stainless hardware (nut/bolt).

I did use a rivet on the forward hole, but, was able to get a washer on the top side

Did you use a lift? Were you able to get a washer behind each of the three rivets?

Installed it on my carbon fiber diffuser. No flex and the holes are blocked with a decorative metal grate. Its difficult enough keeping everything straight with the diffuser off....you guys leaving it on trump my skill!

I guess I'm the lone dissenter. Because I've seen how awesome the ACR diffuser looks and functions I can't see myself tacking anything else on but the real thing. And because the real thing costs as much as it does I don't see myself installing it any time soon, so stock she remains.

I used two screws and one rivet. I inserted the two screws from the top. i was able to get a washer on the top side for the rivet. I used 10/24 stainless/black hardware for the two screws/nuts. It was all done on a lift. I was able to get a small set of vise grips on the top side to hold the screw head, I then tightened the nut on the underside. The underside had a a flat washer and lock washer.

The forearms did take a beating from sliding into the opening at the rear.

Getting that one rivet should help keep the screws in. Maybe a drop of superglue on screw threads would be a good idea if somebody chooses to go the screw route. Interesting to hear how everyone is doing this mod...

Zulu did this keep you from having to take it off? Curious why you went this route....

I cut the panel and dropped them in from the top of panel, this way its very clean install with no mounting tabs visible. I did it with out taking the panel off, took a bit longer but dose not look like a bolt-on product.
Used all stainless hardware on the install.

To install I laid out a grid with masking tape and a marker, made my cuts with a circular saw, pre drilled the holes for the fasteners and dropped them in from the top, you will have to remove drivers side tire and unscrew the wheel well liner to get under the battery box.
Snap the receiver clips on each mounting tab on the diffuser drop in and install stainless fastener, I painted them with black touch up paint for a clean look.

Pretty Creative. You may lose the rigidity which woukd allow fins to flex left or right under high speeds if they are not perfectly straight. Just a theory though....

I am not sure about the factory layout, but, in most cases I believe you to not want the blades parallel. The depth of the blade will influence my last comment. A wider exit is preferable , again, blade depth comes into play. Until you hit three digits, probably any arrangement works, since at low speeds they are only eye candy.

What method are you guys using to get these fins straight?

BJG32
06-09-2016, 09:27 AM
What method are you guys using to get these fins straight?

For five fins: Finding the center line of the diffuser and installing the center fin first. Measuring at the base spacing is exactly 11 inches apart. I then use a long flat board but the tips of the fins up to it to make sure they all line up before marking drill holes. Recheck alignment after each fin is mounted. You can only use my method if you remove the diffuser for install.

The guys leaving it on or marking Painters tape only I would imagine. With this method you will not be able to set the fin in place, check, and recheck measurements to ensure they are exact before committing to a drill hole and mounting. I don't think I could leave the diffuser installed, fight with gravity in a confined space, and get this to my standards.

are you guys positioning the end ones on a angle like the factory? or all perfectly straight?

A wider exit makes them more effective, but, harder to install.

I did this purely for looks. I went straight, because I wanted to make minimal changes to the aerodynamics...mainly because I don't know what I am doing in that regard! Yes ACR has some angle to it, but I have seen several other cars (race cars and other) where the diffuser is straight all the way across so I imagine there is a minor change of some sort. I've had the car at 140 plus and I don't feel any pulls or any difference at all. My rear bumper stays cleaner longer and it looks cool...mission accomplished!

ACR has 6 fins. 4 of the 6 appear to be angled. Remember the plastic diffuser of the ACR is a different shape to the stock diffuser too....

Although I agree the rear diffuser looks very cool on that Viper, my concern would be about what it is doing to the front/rear grip balance of the car. The rear diffuser without the spoiler may be mild enough downforce so that the balance is not significantly reduced. However, it is something to keep in mind and let us know about after you have driven it awhile.

Mine are 100% straight...i feel mine will have minimal impact to aero. It appears the gen 3/4 are mounted straight too with no splitter to offset. At high speeds I feel no difference, but far from an expert.
