While looking at the engine bay the other day, I realized how ugly the factory black screws that hold the fenders and bumper are, so I took a trip to Lowes and here is the outcome. The paint isn't OEM color, but I will fool 99% of the people out there. I'm sure I'm not the first person to ever do this, but it really cleans up the engine bay. There is also no issues with clearance when the hood is closed. For reference if anyone else wants to do this, here's exactly what I used.

Screws: M5-.80 x 30
Caps: Screw covers hinged 1/4" white
Paint: Rustolium spray paint (red) and a coat of clear coat.

Nice subtle change. Did the black washer fit in the cover or did you remove it? Wonder how the same would look on the black screws used around the wheel openings? I painted the screws that hold on the triangular hinge covers and it looks worlds better.

Rocket, the washer didn't fit inside of the screw cap. That's the reason I went with new screws. I am using the plastic of the cap cover itself as the washer. In all honesty, I was a little pissed that they used metal washers to begin with from the factory. Just about every one had worked itself through the paint. I'm glad that the caps were slightly larger than the factory washers and covered it. I don't see any reason why it couldn't be used in the fender's, other than looking a little bulky. I plan on doing a couple screws inside the door jams as well considering how well this project turned out.

JonB, I think I might have found the cheapest viper mod of all time!. I thought about waiting for OEM paint because its not too expensive, but I'm not very patient when I want to get something done. I already had the paint from other projects so I could immediately do this one.

I'm glad to see some positive reviews of this. I'll go ahead and make my first "how-to" for others to try. I will post it within the next couple days.

Great little mod. I always thought the black looked out of place. You say the caps are white? Awesome, I won't need to paint them.

Or you could just buy a black car to match the screws :dude3:.

Funny you say that, my I had a black 03 before my red car and it never bothered me.

Looks great!
I replaced every visible screw and bolt in the interior and door jambs with chrome plated hardware. It looks 1000 times better than factory.

Do you have to do anything special to the plastic to get the paint to stick to it?
