Are the big 3, Woodhouse, Tomball, Roanoke going to be getting a run of special cars for 2017?
Bruce
I'm one who is waiting anxiously for 2017 details, it'll be interesting or not. The sound of crickets is deafening.

How about a factory coupon for a sledgehammer retrofit for all G5s...

It'll be awesome to have a special edition car to see off the best car that came out of the American soil.. But I have a feeling that the viper will be back and back strong with a smaller displacement V10 that's not NA... Crap I need to wake up and go to work.

I don't see an X happening and no factory backed engine upgrades, now aftermarket or from Mopar is a whole new story, but why put in the R&D for a car that will be going away. They already have 2 race cars, GTS-R and GT3

True, but an X would be much more affordable. More of a cup/club car.

X won't happen. It would have to be a stripped down ACRE and guys are already whining about the stereo, chips in CF, no where for expresso cup, no proper make-up checking mirror and so on.
Imagine the outrage if it had zero carpeting and blanking plates everywhere.

You're right...they'll probably just make a special tribute edition with a limited paint scheme and who knows...maybe orange tinted windows for the true cars and coffee waxers???? ;) Lol

Only thing they can justify doing at this point which would garner any interest in a final, final, final edition, is cutting a big whole in the roof, large enough that a complete section of roof comes out. Done and done! If you look at the rear of the GEN V from a certain angle (back to front), it already looks like it could have a sports bar ala GEN 1 already. It's what EVERYONE wants so in the words of Iacocca. "Go build the damn thing already".

Better not be a special engine and more power... for those who stuck by the Viper and ordered an ACR-E even after confirmation it was going away...
That would be the ultimate smack in the face for those who spent money... especially 150k or more... myself included!

Let's look at this realistically.
2010.....final editions
2017.....last year of the viper as we know it. Last year of the V10. Last year at Conner Assembly Plant. 25th year anniversary of the viper. Odds of special edition of the viper......100% and I will take bets.

There have been so many final editions and special editions throughout the Viper history that those words are very diluted and don't mean much. One could write a short story listing them. While I won't disagree with OP that there might be another, it wont be a big deal.... just one of many.

04-28-2016, 12:37 PM
could you imagine combining the 1 of 1 with a Special edition car. there would not even be 2 Vipers alike in 17. I really like the SE cars and to go out on top with a lot of cool cars would be great.
Looking forward to see what the design team is cooking up. I am sure the big 3 aka TRW are already in talks.

They should release a special edition Viper that is TA1 aero, ACR hood, CCBs and that awesome rear lower diffuser. That would look absolutely fantastic.

Actually, another Final Edition Viper name doesn't make sense. Just call it "End Game" or "Checkmate" or "FSPS (For Sneaky Pete's Sake)".
Maybe someone should start a thread on what the last Viper Special Edition should be called. I have to get back to work.

Awful lot of R&D for a final model year they won't sell but a few of.
Paint/aero/badging I could see. Factory supercharger I doubt.

Not a chance of more power or a supercharger. No way they would incur those development costs for a few hundred cars.

I have no idea what or if anything is planned. That said, I'd be willing to bet a healthy sum that there is no way in hell they are doing anything to add power in the last model year. We already know the amount of work that went into getting an extra 40 crank hp out of the current plant. There isn't any easy HP left and the R&D costs would not make any sense for the last 1k or less vipers to ever be sold.

Maybe they will make a limited run based on the model used to set all those track records.

2016 production still going and near 400 so far, 60% ACR'S, and 85% of those are Extremes.
Dodge's presence and participation at NVE looks nothing like the car is going away to me...and if it isn't then I can really see them keeping that tidbit under wraps for now. Could success and energizing by ACR alter decisions???

Even if they wanted to change their mind, they couldn't. Isn't one of the reasons because they can't get side airbags in the Gen 5?

One thing to keep in mind guys.. the Viper has 'gone away' before.... only to resurface later in a new design etc.
The Viper is not gone by any means in my opinion, Gen V is due to the airbag issue (not fitting etc) but Gen VI will resurface, just as IV did, just as V did.
Prob not until 2019/2020 area and by then, most likely not a V10.. but whatever it is, we'll all curse it for not being a V10 until we see the track records and one of us drives it and tells others etc.
When Gen V came out, a lot of people were angry because it wasn't raw like older Vipers if i recall. Seems some people just want something to be angry about. :/
The Viper isn't going anywhere.

Actually that is solvable by making the car a Convertible under the current rules.

Sergio's comments, if you read them, don't lay an end for the Viper. To me it simply meant then Gen V is dead and there is no replacement that would have an overlap. I think we'll see something as you say in 2020. But it'll be less displacement, DCT, etc.
