hello
Can anyone help, last year i brought in my 02 viper to have it re-tuned, starting issues. While on the dyno, the oil pump let go.
Replaced the pump and all looked and sounded good. Got the car home and several days later decided to check oil levels, to my surprise oil was down about a litre.
Replaced the lost oil. 2 weeks later rechecked the oil level and again it was down about 1 litre. Again i replaced the lost oil and inspected the car for oil leaks. found no leaks.
i paid close attention to the tail pipe over the next few days to see if the was any blew smoke but all looked normal. While driving along, I notice my oil pressure gauge slow heading the wrong way while I was under load, but returning back to normal operating levels when I got off the gas and just cruised. Any ideas?

No fresh stain underneath after it's been parked? i.e. evidence of a leak you couldn't see by popping the hood?

You've definetley got an issue if you've got oil pressure dropping off under load. I'd stop driving it! When you say the oil pump let go, what exactly happened? What was replaced, we're all the bearings checked? Did the whole timing cover grenade?

the tuner tells me, 1st pull didn't feel right. let the car cool down, and started the second pull,. Got into third and clanging noise stated and he shut it down. opened up the front timing cover/oil gear case and discovered the gear had shattered. some scuffing on the crank but nut bad.
the cover has a huge crack, looks as if the gear was trying to come out the front of cover.
searched for a cover and gears found one of a gentleman from this sight. cover and gears. bearing where not checked. the engine make great oil pressure, when oil levels are correct.

The catalytic converters will clean up an amazing amount of smoke. Cadillac had oil consumption problems (ask me how I know) and never blew any smoke. If it isn't leaking, it's burning it.

My guess, parts of the gear went through the engine, scoring the Bearings, crank, camshaft, cylinder walls etc and it's now "burning" the oil. Oil pressure should increase under load! Pull the pan and start checking for damage. Also if you have the old oil filter cut it open and see what comes out with a magnet. The engine will probably need a complete rebuild at the least and possibly new crank, pistons, cam etc.

first, thank you guys for helping me out with this.
ok guys more info.
spoke to the tuner today. oil pan was removed, oil filter cut open and inspected. no metal filings to be found.
quick history on car. engine internals were all replaced with forged everything, prior to this happening.
like i said, the tuner has always had issues with starting part of the tune, other wise car ran a little rich but strong. 900 rwhp 900 trq.

I would look into doing a leak down/compression test. Hows the coolant look?

coolant look normal and levels are normal.
going to try the leak and compression test .
what about valve seals?
the car does run hot in the summer
