I'm going to change the diff fluid this weekend. I can't do the job at home so i need to take the tools with me. I've read a few threads on the subject but it is not clear exactly which tools are required to remove the belly pan and the fill and drain plugs. I think the plugs are 3/8 and 1/4 allen but not sure. The belly pan I have no idea. Can someone enlighten me? Thanks.

The belly pan bolts are T40 torx heads. Not sure on the other sizes.

Make sure you take some kind of pipe thread sealant with you as well. You will need it for both the drain and fill plugs. It's a pretty easy job. I did mine in the garage and the longest part was just throwing the car up on jack stands and waiting for the old fluid to drain out. I want to say the Allen is a 1/4 but I'm not 100% sure on that. I'm sure another member will chime in with the correct size. I will tell you that I just used an Allen wrench out of a standard set that I have so it wasn't a special size or anything like that.
Any reason why you can't do it at home? The best thing about that is...while the oil is draining, you can go inside and have a beer while you wait. :D

I hear ya. The man cave has the big screen, stereo, fridge. But it's too crowded and the driveway has too much slope. booo.
Thanks.

Not to beat a dead horse, but does anyone know if the allen wrench sizes are english or metric?

For the Allen wrench sizes, I would call a Dodge Dealer and have their Viper Tech look it up. Should be able to get an answer for you pretty quick. Like I previously posted, it isn't a special size. I was able to use an Allen wrench out of my standard set. I just can't remember if it were metric or not. However, I can tell you for sure that it was one of the two biggest sizes. These Allen wrenches were bought at Home Depot. One standard, one metric.

The drain plugs and top fill plug are 5/16 allen. Interesting that the drain plug had been removed at some point. The torque marks were gone. Not much fluid came out. Hmm. Looks like the output shaft is leaking. That's a job for the 3.55 gear swap. I'm sure that will be a pita.

There should not be a lot of fluid - about a quart. Make sure you fill through "middle" fill plug, you will overfill if you add up to the level of the top plug (not sure what that plug is for - unused sensor or fluid cooler line?

I don't know. Seems odd there are 4 plugs. I believe two of them are used for an external cooler.
I'm pretty sure I didn't see a quart come out. There was evidence of a small leak but maybe a few ounces. A mystery.

The car needs to be driven to warm up the diff, then drain. It's the only way to get all the oil and "crap" out...

Did that. Drove 20+ minutes. No quart came out.
Someone mucked around with it before I got the car. My guess is they didn't fill it enough. There is/was a small leak but not enough to worry about.

I didn't pay very close attention to how much came out but I couldn't have been much more than a qt if that...06

My car hadn't been started in a week and all the fluid came out. It just takes longer than if you warm it up first. I let mine sit for a few hours though...just to make sure. When I went back out to it...there was literally zero fluid coming out...not even an occasional drop. The two top plugs are for the oil cooler. I recently did mine and just filled it up until fluid started coming out the fill plug. It took about 1.5 quarters to fill.
EDIT: This is for an 06 coupe (should be the same fluid change method though).
