New member, first post- Forks of the Credit, Ontario, Canada! Maybe someone else has already posted this but I just Googled Targa Tasmania Viper and noticed that a couple of fellows had entered a new Viper ACR! First time a Viper has entered! Thought everyone might be interested and it would be cool if the Club could send the fellows a note wishing them good luck! The roads look amazing! DG1

Good luck to these guys! They are not alone, they do have some help from Arrow and are running DSE catch cans, hopefully they will show people down there what the Viper is all about. Thanks for posting and welcome to the forums.

Day Two:

Wrest Point GT2
1. Matt Close/Cameron Reeves, 2015 Porsche GT3
2. Jason White/John White, 2016 Dodge Viper ACR Extreme, +2s
3. Craig Dean/Alessandro Gelsomino,2015 Ford Mustang Shelby GT, +2m4s

The big news is that the 60 second penalty decision was reversed... so White Hot is back in the race in the best way.

One ACR Extreme and one ACR non-Extreme both in the top 5 out of 351 cars some of which are surely highly modded. Got to love that.

I noted how they are concerned about their front tire wear and them lasting though to the end of the event Saturday. They do have a minimum tread depth requirement they must meet or get a 5 minute penalty if found out of compliance by the officials. They are allowed two spare tires that don't have to be carried on board that can be used without a time penalty.

Interesting quote from the article:

“The changes we made to the suspension and wheel alignment last night made the car awesome today,” White said.

“If we had that set-up from the start of the event we wouldn’t have been concerned about tyre wear at all. We’re very confident now the tyres will make the distance, no worries at all.

“Now that we’ve sorted out tyre concerns we can push a bit harder and try to extend our lead.”

Bad Luck has found our ACR racer... and the third place mustang....

https://targa.com.au/tc/news_details.asp?asset_id=28349

But that puts the non-extreme ACR in Second, but several minutes back on the 911.

The Mustang had a nasty bounce... and it tried to call 911 from Tasmania see it here:

In lighter news the 1982 944 Porsche is now in the lead, but had to repair a ball joint with a bit of fencing:

“We broke a ball joint on Mount Arrowsmith. We had a really bad vibration at the end of the stage, so we limped through Tarraleah and Ellendale and we chucked some big cable ties and fencing wire around it at New Norfolk,” Achterberg explained.

“We don’t carry fencing wire in our tool kit. My service crew stopped and asked a nice farmer if we could cut a bit out of his fence. I’ve gotta come back and buy him a carton of grog.”

For those like me whose work filter won't let them see the Targa official website:

Blown engine sucks. I wonder what caused it.

That is really surprising and disappointing. Would love to know the details as to how/why it happened.

Me too. It was modded to 675hp according to the article. I wonder what the mods were and if they contributed to the failure or was it similar to some of the issues some have had due to oiling etc. Hopefully they will reveal the cause once they find out.

Either way you know that isn't going to result in good press.

Looks like they blew the motor and had a mini fire. I wonder what mods, if any, they had. Unfortunate ending.

"I think an over rev of the engine in the Queenstown stage may be to blame, we're gutted," White said.
