Hey guys,
I'm about to pull the trigger on a new to me Gen V with a Viper Exchange stage ii heads and cam package. The car has American Racing Headers and the Arrow PCM as well.
I fully realize the car won't pass the visual SMOG/emissions test here in CA which is required when you bring in any car from out of the state. My question is whether the OBDii plug they use at the SMOG test station will be able to communicate with the Arrow PCM? If not, is it just a simply swap out for the stock PCM so that i can pass the OBDii portion of the test?
I realize i might be the only guy to have to deal with this as I'm bringing an already-modded Viper into the state and these heads and cam packages are still fairly new. I'm hoping someone else has at least gone back and forth from an Arrow PCM to a stuck PCM just for testing purposes.
Thanks!

The car might not run good enough to make it to a test site with a stock pcm.
I can read my HC pcm with my scan tool. This gets debatable, but, it is rumored, the car will pass on the arrow HC, flashed pcm.

Ask Andy at Viper exchange, he will have the answer.

You might get a better response by calling Andy or Mark J, directly.
You have a great question.

Ok guys. Thanks for jumping in and trying to give me some help. I really appreciate it. I never had any issues back when i had my '02 ACR. Then, when i had my '06 VCA Coupe with a Paxton, i had an issue where the PCM wouldn't communicate with the CA equipment the first time around. I used a handheld SCT tuner and uploaded my stock tune back into the car and it worked fine. Visual was still a no-go but I have that part covered.
I'll for sure call Andy in the morning. I have an email out to him as of yesterday trying to see about a tune for 91 octane but I've been reading today on this site that there isn't an Arrow 91 octane tune. It's just a recommended 93 octane tune and the PCM will pull timing to account for 91 octane gas here in CA. That sound about right?
Thanks again!

I thought I read somewhere here that Andy and/or Mark said it was readable and would pass emission testing. What doesn't make sense to me is if that's correct then why do they also say the Stage I PCM will not pass emissions? Stage 2 has a heck of a lot more going on that would cause it to fail IMO.

You will either need a "hook up" ($$$) or need to register out of state. As for octane, I have been running 91 without a hiccup, even ran most of my track day on Friday with 91 and the car ran like a champ.

I'm okay with a hookup...but will the Arrow PCM even speak with the CA State equipment via the OBDii port? Visually i have covered. I'm just worried the Arrow unit won't talk with the CA equipment. If that is the case, are you saying we can't just swap out the Arrow PCM for the stock PCM unit and do the test, then swap back?
Thanks

Ask "KB Viper" he has H/C and is in SD....

I think i looked at some of his posts and the difference is that he had his car stock here in CA before doing the heads and cam. Therefore he still has several years before he ever has to get a smog test.
