I replaced all the fluid yesterday and noticed abs light came on. I thought maybe because it was car was on a lift. Drove 20 miles with abs light on and realized that we didn't bleed abs. On the way home light is off. Brakes feel fine but I might go through bleeding it. Or perhaps the air got Back to the reservoir.

You need a DRB tool to cycle the ABS unit during bleeding to clear it out. The alternative would be to bleed as normal and then drive and brake hard enough to get the ABS to activate a few times to clear out then re bleed with all fresh fluid again. Most people never do this and although there is fluid left un flushed it is a pretty small amount.

Yeah since light is off I'm going to leave it alone ;)

When Im bleeding mine I had to pump the brake pedal in between bleeding (close the bleeder valve, pump brake pedal few times, open bleeder valve, repeat) to get fluid to push through the ABS and keep the fluid coming out. I never had an issue with the ABS light coming on. Not sure if that achieves the same effect as the DRB tool but the end result was good.

im having the same problem, pretty sure though i have air in my abs.

Did a full fluid flush on my brakes with the power bleeder, no air bubbles to speak of. Park the car for any amount of time, the pedal is soft for the first pump then its fine after. Im assuming this is for the abs. Since the light is on, it will not function. Im assuming needs a tool to cycle it? Or just reset and hard brake?

Well, I broke down and bought the scan tool today. Turns out it's actually a rr abs sensor circuit failure. 0ohms at sensor plug Fuck lol

Thanks mark, I used the DBR and I haven't felt the brakes this firm before with manual bleeding alone.

JasonSSG...no, to be complete on an ABS car, one needs to cycle the actuators in the system. Can you get by without this? ...yes in routine cases. If you have air in your system, best to utilize DRB III.

On a side note, this is just one more important reason to be in a Viper club. Use club contacts to overcome issues such as bleeding ABS unit, programming TPMS, etc. I often tote my DRB III to club events...usually find some one in need of something. Ownership is only going to get more tedious over the long run for "independents".

A DRB III? Please Report back if it works?

Does it do TPMS also?
Is it straight forward to use for the ABS & TPMS?

Only one I found aftermarket that will do the abs purge is the snap on ethos pro, and then you can buy the tpms expansion. We're talking $2k here+ 2x update yearly at $500/update.

The $90 autozone can read and clear codes, that's all.

Dr. Ron...yes, yes on Gen III & IV. I reprogrammed member's 2008 with new wheels, tires, sensors yesterday in less than 2 minutes. Feel free to call me if you want more. There are tons of myths out there...especially at dealerships. 317-402-9013

P.S. Also does ABS on Gen II Vipers.
