View Full Version : Stumble off idle

This should be an easy one for you gurus. Since new, and I've heard it on videos of other Gen V's as well, when you tap the gas at idle to get a quick rev of the motor, it stumbles - almost as if it's choking on gas and has to clear its throat before it can rev. I've never noticed this on my V 8's unless it was a carburator and getting too much fuel. Even after it warms up it still does it - I can't seem to get a clean rev off idle. Your ideas pls. and thx.

i don't want to spoil the party, but, I do not think all the G5's stumble. Mine cannot be the only G5 that does not stumble. If you came from a direct linkage car and now you have fly by wire, that could be the diff.

I was wondering if maybe the idle on mine was a little low and if a slight 100 or 150 rpms might fix it. The only problem is how do you increase the idle? Any thoughts?

Idle is set by the pcm. What rpm does yours idle at.

Mine is stored for the winter - I can't remember what it is, but if I could up it a bit that might just solve the problem. I think it's just got too much fuel; it doesn't smell rich, but it wouldn't take much to throw it off. I called Dodge to see if they could flash the computer and increase the idle - they are looking into it. I realize this isn't a fancy heads and cam thread, but some technical feedback from the pros would be appreciated. Thx.

The dealer is not going to change your idle if it is within factory standards. On the other hand, if it is out of range, they will correct the rpm.

This is as good as you can expect...idle would be set from the factory to make sure of a couple of things:
1. Fast enough that the alternator will still charge
2. Slow enough that idle emissions are kept to a reasonable volume
You could do it yourself if you were willing to go the HPTuners route, but custom programming to simply increase the idle speed doesn't exactly sound like a wise investment.

Good point. If I was going to go this route I would have it tuned as well. Thx.

At least this would open the door and I have a very good relationship with my local dealer so I could probably get them to do it for me.
