So i decided to take offf the intake manifold to get polished. Mean while my mechanic said he would port match my intake to my heads. But im little weary of porting because i would need s retune.. i have read some post and its all over the board. Some say u need a tune, some say u dont cause the computer will adjust it self with the extra air flow and add more fuel.... just wanna know so i can port or not..?

It is my understanding that with port and polished intake and heads you will need a tune. Because you have so much more air going through there. Or, rather the air is flowing better I suppose. I also thought that you should do rockers to get the most out of it.

As far as a tune goes though, I thought it was a given. I'm not saying I am right, just what I have always been taught.

I haven't ported my intake or heads yet, but did add a larger throttle body and CAI without a tune and she runs fine. Although, I believe I lost HP and know I lost Mpg, as I'm sure the computer added fuel to compensate for increased air without issue. But, I'm thinking I lost HP because I'm bringing in more air, and not getting more out, so I'll get headers next and by then figure I'll need a tune.

Long-Short, when you start to mod chances are you'll eventually need a tune to maximize your investment.

I understood that your polishing the exterior of manifold and only porting manifold (not heads), so I doubt you'll need a tune .... yet ;)

Im only porting my intake , not my heads... getting a polished intake and figured why not port it while its out.. but if i need a retune then i think i wont port...

A manifold alone is not going to be enough of a difference to justify a re-tune. That said, a canned tune or direct flash will go a long way towards waking the car up anyway... so its money well spent regardless.

Thanks for the info... next question is will i gain like 10hp if that from doing this. Being that i have kn cai and bbk tb

Yes, you will surely gain a little bit anytime you improve airflow.

Gaining 10hp from just port matching the intake is debatable unless your cutting the intake open and porting and polishing it, for what your doing very minor gain i say under 5hp, Where you could really put your money is in dans vsp stock computer reflash which i will say netted me 20 plus hp! but the drivability was that much more stronger and crisp, also he does some other things at the same time like skip shift deletes etc well worth the reflash plus it was cheap, i gave him a list of the mods and was just tb, cat delete, intake and he flashed it accordingly. Link to when i did dans vsp reflash mod

i got a tune already in it from roe racing on a sct flash tuner, it was tuned for kn cai, bbk tb, cat deletes, borla cat backs, so i guess i wont gain much from port matching my intake...:(

Just an FYI.....if you have it port matched, don't open it up to match the Gen 3 gasket. Use a Gen 2 gasket. The Gen 3 is huge.
