There are some small gaps built into in the numbering system, so I'd venture we're very close (based on number 1002 being issued), but not necessarily there.

Sorry but we are at 946 paid members through yesterday. We could make it as there were 13 signups yesterday. At that pace we will break 1000 but no guarantees.

Yep, there are gaps in the numbering (some sub-100 that are being reserved for SRT folks and officers and a few scattered #'s throughout). There are also people who bought numbers above the current 1000. In the end as a rule of thumb, look at the last # in the list and subtract around 40. That'll give you a good idea.

If you want a charter membership, join before 12/31/2013. It would be unfair to grant someone "charter" status just because they later decided that it would be a good thing. You want to be a charge member? Sign up by Tuesday.

We will be auctioning off numbers 1-10. This will take place at the end of January - early February. Plus there will be a couple of very unique items up for auction too. The plan is to conduct this auction "LIVE" online with streaming video. Should be fun!

I do doubt, everybody knows about the VCA's melt down. However people do ask why the VCA is still up and who is making fun of the members.

We had to determine a date. 12/31/2013 seemed like a good one and then we could hit the ground running in 2014 as a first full year of membership. It's unfortunate that some regions have been kept in the dark - but I am not sure how changing a date would increase the enlightening process. It's frustrating that we cannot communicate directly with passionate Viper folks who, for whatever reason, have been left out of the loop regarding the "issues" with clubs in 2014.

..........At the end of the day this issue is about a number.

I would wager that virtually all VOA members have numbers thousands lower than their VCA number, unless they paid a premium to keep their old one. Granting "Charter" status to someone simply because they were in the right place at the right time takes away from the real meaning of what a charter member is, in my opinion.

Some HISSSSTORY Trivia:

Very few people understand the club's INITIAL vs subsequent number allocation systems. {short version: Geography} Even recently, Fiona and Kim were unaware of the original numbering system.

Of the Founding Fourteen members, most of us had membership numbers ABOVE 900, including Maurice hiz-self!

The original numbers also had a YEAR-PREFIX, with the year in a small box, by design like an AMEX CARD. [Some nit-picky guy in the travel/airline biz back then wanted to ensure recognition for long-term-club-memberships, like the airlines do.. Ironic, eh? ]

As the years went on, THE YEAR MATTERS more than the geographically-assigned number. Anyone still have a recent card handy? Did they still say "Member Since" ?
