Does the balancer bolt have to be replaced? I just want to make sure the bolt is not one of them use once and throw away type bolts.

Unless you damage it, you don't have to replace it. At least on a Gen II.

I recall 2003 (and 2004?) Having balanced bolt issues.

The 03/04 from factory is known for loosening up and the balancer spinning. Add lock right to the crank bolt. If you are inclined, Roe Racing sells a crank pin kit.
The 2005/2006 bolt is bigger and will not fin in a 2003/2004 crank.

Are some of the bolts in the 2003 Model Year the old, larger style? I note that the part number in the parts list is only different for the 2004MY. The Parts lists for 2002, 2003, 2005 have the same old larger bolt part # listed

Thanks everyone. I will put it out and put some lock tight on it. I hop to have the viper running again soon.

Late to join the thread I know....I was lucky, my bolt and balancer fell out in my driveway! Definitely an issue on 2003 vipers. Our year had a larger diameter, shorter bolt with a different torque spec than later years. I would definitely pin it. I upgraded to ATI at the same time. I would not trust anything other than pinning if you are boosting it.
