Without a huge investment I'd be more afraid that they'd muck it up.

Based off of a AR Guilia or whatever it's called? I used one of those for a rental while at work once. More garbage.

If the lack of a Union contract didn't hit home last year then his comments now surely should. RIP Viper, I'm glad I was able to buy my dream car new before it ceases production.

I don't think so the car hasn't been released yet.

NO you did not rent a Guilia. You rented a Guilietta. Guilia is brand new for this year, and pretty sure it isn't even in production yet

"Proprietary platform" is fancy talk for "the frame, wheelbase, and drive train all need to be interchangeable like Legos or else we aren't interested."
I understnad they are in the business of making money. But it seems like that comes at the cost of passion and braking barriers.

You're absolutely correct. Didn't realize they had a newer model!
Well we've always had a break between gens so no biggy there.
It does push more into wanting to go for an ACR. And get the best of the last. But I'm hopeful we'll see the name again, but I think we all know the car and power train in its current design, are going to be hisssstory. US regs wil ensure that alone, hopefully they do it justice in its next life.

If the Viper does return, hopefully Ralph and co are designing it so it continues its ethos. I understand if they need to modify the configuration to build it - but we certainly don't want to see what Chevy did with the disappointing C7Z vs C6Z...
Dodge does need to get into this century with their peromance cars and adopting new tech, or they'll be left in the dust soon. Times are changing and displacement ain't going to solve your problems thanks to DC.

The Alfa Romeo Giulia front looks like an Edsel IMO, long live the Viper

They're going out on top with the Gen V ACR, the baddest snake to ever have lawfully slithered on a public road. We certainly can live with that.

Idiots in DC definitely the biggest problem for business.

Big 8.4L V10. Manual transmission. Don't know how much longer we will see cars like this.

Shared platforms is the future for all the major automakers, not only the Viper. On the Ferrari forums those guys are bitching about the same thing, that Ferraris will no longer be what they used to be. It's just the future we have to get used to. There are still some boutique brands but it's extremely expensive to develop everything in house nowadays especially with all the emissions crap.
Just enjoy it while you can :)

The new Alfa sedan looks promising, but I hate the name, whatever it means!

Yep.
A HUGE attraction of the viper to me is the red, white & blue of it. As Randy put it, God bless America, all 8.4 liters of it.
Although the next gen would be interesting if they didn't do a C7Z06 blunder and make it perform worse than the previous gen, but as a Giulia, or wtf it is, I'd fear the next gen will be an Italian car. If I wanted an Italian car I'd be in L&F breeds now. I'm not an old dog who hates new tricks, I love where the viper has gone in all the gens I've owned and would welcome more evolution in a gen6, but not at the cost of changing the flag colors it represents. I know will say it's not American now, blah blah, but in my definition it is, but even my definition may be well violated in the next one, if it's made. We'll see. Meanwhile, back to the drivesrt site to play with ACR builds, lol.

As much as I like the GEN V, I really wish they would have deviated away from this current design and went with something a little more dramatic. For any of you who were at the GEN V unveil party in NY, and you looked at the sketches of cars they were choosing from (these were hanging on the wall next to the entrance), you know exactly how crazy this car could have been. Unfortunately, I feel they took the safe route in the design. If, and that is a HUGE if, but if the GEN VI actually comes to fruition, I think the design should take a different route and, as much as I hate to say this, I believe the Viper will need a DC transmission to grab the attention of more customers. However, with that said, PLEASE still offer a true MANual transmission. It's truly disheartening that all of these automakers are ditching the manual transmission. I'm just glad I grew with them around and that I learned at a young age to drive one.

I personally feel the push to make Alfa like Mercedes will fail miserably. They're going to suck Jeep and Dodge dry to accomplish it. And it will flop. Just like Maserati will remain a Niche car. Italian cars are known for beauty, that's it. Not quality..not marvels of engineering. The Germans have a near monopoly on luxury/quality with the Japanese in second. I don't see room for another. Sure FIAT could steal the Viper name and make a feminine car that would appeal to the masses, but it wouldn't be a true Viper. I'm not a fan of FIAT and I honestly don't like Ralph's fawning over European design. I see all this Imported from Detroit crap yet when I see Ralph's social media is nothing but Euro praise.

If the Viper is going to die then let it die, don't come out with another car that's nothing like the Viper and still use the name (call it something else)!

Well it is modelling themselves after European builders that has got Dodge to finally producing vehicles that aren't crap anymore. So you have to see things Ralph's point of view.

This is true. 10 - 15 years ago, all domestic vehicles had low rent interiors, even Cadillac. Volkswagen interiors were nicer, even on the cheap ones. This is one example where copying European cars was a good one. Panel gaps was another area.
But, almost all European cars were notorious for wiring gremlins at that time too. Some still are. Come on, it's 2015, 12V wiring isn't that complicated.

16 cyl Packards and Cadillacs were also fantastic cars, but their lack of a profitable business case doomed them too.

Given the architectural development within the brand, there is a possibility that a new version of the Viper may surface," Marchionne said at his annual press conference.
"Whether it will surface in time [to replace the current Viper] is unclear to me.” He indicated that other FCA nameplates will have priority over a new Viper.
If one were to read between the lines, we know the Viper will run until the end of 2017. To me this reads as something is in the works. The caveat seems if the new vehicle in the works will be ready before December 31st, 2017.
