How long can she sit & still be able to fire right up? I'm talking no tender and without using hibernation mode. I start and run my car every seven days and my voltage is right around 14, which is strong.

Has anyone let their car sit for a period of time longer than one week and been ok?

The voltage you are reading is the output of the alternator. It should be around 14 when the alternator is working properly. That would be high for a battery when the car is not running.

IMO, if you have a G5, then a built in trickle charger is a must...unless it is your regular driver, which the vast majority of todays new cars are. The Vipers new electronics and components is noticably drawing down battery power when ignition is off, sometimes for a few hours I've been told...which is "supposed" to shut down automatically thereafter. Probably the best less than $100 investment in your G5 that you wil make...it's called piece of mind.

I had a viper that could sit 4 months and start up no problem, then the one I have now is dead in 3-4 weeks. But the tender fixes everything.

THE YEAR MATTERS.....the absolute WORST are 96.5--97 Gen 2.

Gen 5 forum ASSumed G5....... my recollection from the design side was 28 days......but BCM / EEU sucks more juice if alarmed. So for peace-of-mind a $55 Deltran Battery Tender Plus is a good expense. Especially if alarmed.

Yeah it's in the V forum because I was inquiring on the V.

Sounds like I can start it every 2-3 weeks throughout the winter & be safe as opposed to the weekly fire up I've been doing

you are looking at 6 to 8 months before the battery goes below 11.4 or 80% discharged.

Only problem is that at that low voltage sulfating begins and, like meat, once it goes bad you need to just throw it out.

I guess I'll be our test subject for Hibernation mode. Mine has been sleeping for a month now with no tender. I'll try cranking it over in a couple months and report back (fingers crossed!)
