I will be tracking my gen 2 viper (2001) every now and again. My viper buddy told me that I may want to get a oil accumulator. If I dont I may hurt my engine. Is this true? Or is it just a good idea like putting an aftermarket trans cooler on a truck if you know your gonna be pulling a trailer all the time. Any info or experience would be appreciated.

You have the larger oil pan being an 01. Call JonB and get the baffle kit for your pan. Helps keep oil at the pickup drain while tracking. Change your oil pan gasket also if you don't have one of the newer style updated ones on there as well. You can also keep your eyes out for one of the ACR oil adapters. Very hard to find though.

So since I have a larger oil pan I dont really need a accumulator but I need a baffle kit. Could you explain a bit more?

You should also run 15-50 oil on track

Is the oil pan gate the same as a oil pan baffle?

No 0w-20 in a gen2!

By oil accumulator, I assume your speaking of a catch can? If so, that'd also be a good idea when tracking.

Two totally different things. Catch can would also be a good idea so you would not get oil build up in the intake.

I thought he was referring to an accusump

Why do you have 0-20 in your car?

Yes im talking about a accusump. I was told by several people when i got my viper that 0-20 was better for it than 10-30. Been running 0-20 for 24k miles. Hard mountain road driving. No issues

That's wild, most Viper guys would suggest 0W-40 or 15W-50. I had an accusump system on my Gen 2, but it failed and just filled the whole container with oil. Luckily I check my oil often and didn't drive it long with the oil being about 3/4 qt low.

Oh. Sorry for the confusion. I meant 0-40. I just put 0-20 in my Honda and had it on the brain

Definitely, those two weights for Mobil 1 are recommended specifically because they have published ZDDP levels that are higher than Mobil 1's other weight formulations (Plus the 0W-40 Mobil 1 was recommended factory fill for a while). Other manufacturers don't typically publish their ZDDP numbers.

I run an accumulator on a different car for pre-oiling before I start the engine.
