I've been enjoying my Quality brand four-post lift for over a year now, and since the warranty period is complete it was time to make a minor modification to the lift. The original lever to release the mechanical locks was a straight rod, and not very comfortable to use. A shift knob would make it much easier to use, and look pretty cool as well.

Here's how the lever looks now:

The knob is a Hurst product that I ordered from JEGS (arrived in 2 days!):

It's about as basic as you can get, and has a classic look to it:

A local machine shop, Hamilton Machine Works (great folks there) threaded the old lever to a 3/8 -- 16 pitch. You'll need 13/16" or 7/8" of threads so the jam nut and shift knob have enough threads to work well (sorry, it was a bit blurry). I had the threads at 3/4", so I had to file the jam nut down so it would make for a clean installation (the jam nut is shown in the photo):

Overall, it's an easy modification and is much more comfortable to use than the plain old lever.

I like it! Now I know what to do with the old 8-ball I converted to a shift knob back in the day.
