Hi Guys!
I'm trying to figure out how to get the 18 speakers for my ACR. I got this prior to ordering my second one which is a 1 of 1. I'd really like to be able to drive this car more than just at the track and 3 speakers is kind of bullshit to me.
Does any one have an Extreme that they have been wanting to install the speakers in.

You can order an extreme with the 18 speakers, its required when getting a full laguna interior. I got mine that way.

According to Courtney (thank you) at ViperExchange, all the wiring is there. You could theoretically order a non 1:1 Extreme and choose/wire your own kick ass speakers. However, I believe it may require a trip to the dealership to get the Head unit to recognize all the speakers.

Perhaps a dumb question - are all the speaker openings there? With the old hard-core option, they covered the speaker openings, but those covers were easy to remove if desired. I like your idea of putting speakers in yourself (and choosing your own components). I definitely wouldn't be cutting any holes, though...

I am currently in the process of doing this myself. I have a parts list already to go. I will update all when the parts arrive and what it takes to activate.

Yes all holes are there most covered with CF panels again.

Covered yes, but the buckets for the 6x9's is gone as well. I have a pic of it but don't know how to post via mobile phone.
Are the grill openings there? I was told no, in fact different panels were used hence one would have to cut openings for grills or buy new panels. What's the real story

Be patient. All locations are there. I have visually confirmed that much, as well as all wiring. When the parts I have ordered show up, I will let you guys all know. If I did my homework right, it's 1500 in parts. ACR doesn't have an amp at all. It plays through the Bluetooth side of the factory system.

When I ran through the components list/cost with Mark, it came up to right about 1500 as well, not sure if that was going to a full even 12 speaker setup though, but I'm definitely subscribed to your findings on this!
Let us know ASAP! :)

05035253AB qty 1 (6x9 sub)
05035308A qty 1 (unity speaker to add i addition to premium kit to use as rear most 3.5")

note that the ACR already has the 3.5 unity center dash speaker, so the one supplied in the premium upgrade kit gets moved to the trunk in addition to the 1 in the parts list.
I am currently waiting for the above parts, and will let you guys know how it turns out. Ill take pics and installation notes along the way. good thing is, a lot of the work is already done and supplied by the premium upgrade kit.

And that kit is really designed to go from 9 to 18. Starting with 12 you end up with 2 extra speakers - the center dash and a subwoofer. They must count one of those as a 2 way speaker.

Yes, but for some reason though they have the AB part as active, the AA part says in 13' out 13' the AB parts says in 13' and out 16' so trying to find out if anything has really changed in the connectors or spec that would prevent interchanging them with a 16' car.

All speakers on the list fit and are plug and play. The rear brackets are already existing just as roadrunner said. Once I receive the correct amp I will post if it works or not. No point on doing a write up until I know it works for sure, but I have no doubt it will.
So far the 2 door and 2 rear unity speakers work without the amp. Even though there is little low end response, it's still worlds better than the 3 speaker set up.

Like I said, the install is probably the simplest install I have ever done. If you have read the instructions with the upgrade package, that is pretty much it. While doing the upper door speakers you simply put it the the door woofers. The rear most speakers it's literally two clips and the seal holding the rear panel carpet in place. I have pics of the install once I know it works.

If you're using the instructions from the speaker upgrade kit, they missed a screw hidden under the SRS badge on the door panels. 2013s and maybe 2014s didn't have this screw.

And you have to be carful pulling all those covers off too because the tabs are weak. I found the screw after I went to pull the first panel and found the panel rotating around the srs panel. Popped right off and of course a third screw. The door woofer also requires you to look under the panel to make sure all the posts are line up before reinstalling. If the woofer is not seated in its pocket properly, it will not allow the panel to rest fully against the door.

Great work on the parts list, really appreciate the info. I just ordered 82213535 to upgrade my TA2.0 to the 18 speaker system. I do have one question though, it looks like I already have a grill and speaker in the center dash, not a cover like the upper door speakers. You mention using the extra 3.5" in the rear of the car. Where exactly are the rear speakers? I've look all around the hatch area but can't find where they would be.

And one last question. Do I need "05035339AA qty 4 (buckets for 6x9's, needed as once you remove delete cover it goes to the outside)" if I am upgrading from the 12 to 18 system? I would assume if I do need them, I would only need 3?

The list I compiled was to convert an ACR over. I am unfamiliar with the TA.
That said, the rear speakers are behind the carpeted panel that is in the rear center panel. It's the panel that covers the latch for the hatch.
The speaker buckets are needed for each 6x9 you add. The ACR has none, which is why 4 are needed.
TitanSnake
12-06-2015, 08:07 PM
If you already have the front center speaker, obviously you don't need it. Hopefully someone else can chime in if the TA has the rear most 3.5" speakers. I am under the impression that it does, which means you wouldn't need them.

The only speakers you should have to add on a 2015 are the door speakers, and one additional "sub" behind each seat. You will need 2 of the speaker buckets for behind the seats, I didn't even know they were available when I did mine, but to be honest, I only ordered the upgrade kit so I didn't have to look at the blanks in the door, knowing there should be speakers there.......
Ordering this whole kit was still cheaper than ordering the individual pieces(door speaker grilles are pricey), even tough you end up with some extra parts. I have a spare center speaker with grill, as well as two extra behind the seats speakers

I scored the upgrade kit on fleabay for $350 and I just ordered the buckets, ordered three just in case. I've seen a wrote up where a guy removed his door panels to find speakers there too, just no grills. I would think with as minor it is just to bolt in an extra 4 speakers all 2015+ Viper would come with the 18 speaker system. Looks like a very easy upgrade after the fact so at teh plant I can't see it taking more than an extra 5 minutes per car and $100 MAYBE in parts.

I've got one, and it doesn't work, it fried my radio. There is some sort of tap on the harness for those 3 front speakers to get power, if you plug in the AMP it will simply blow up the radio.

Well damn, that sucks. The 12 speaker systems have the surround option... So maybe the dealer set the option to RC5 (12 speaker), whereas you want RCA (18 speaker).
But yes you are close if you have that menu option and have fade/balance/volume via the AMP.

I think the vehicle was coded wrong. Have the dealer reflash, make sure the jumper is properly connected under the steering column. If that's not in Full Audio it wont work.

I was really hoping this would've been a simple add on. Nothing is ever simple, I guess. I'm leaning more toward a decent aftermarket setup at this point. To those taking the first stab at this I applaud you! I really hope this thread paves the way for a successful upgrade at some point.

Hey Dave , All I Had Viper Exchange Do ,Was Flash The Radio, I Had The Speaker Kit Here From My T/A,That I Took Out Before Trading It In, Had The Same Issue With The ta, Just The Fronts Had Sound And The Radio Was Flashed, And The Rear Subs Nothing, I Started With The 12 System , And Just The Doors Had Sound As Soon As Its Plugged In , All Cars That Have The 12 Speaker Set Up And Do Not Flash The Radio,The Door Speakers Work Instantly. The REAR Subs Are The Issue. Remember One Speaker To Them Counts As 2 Speakers , The Speakers You Add Has A Tweeter And Mid,All In One Counts As 2 Speakers, Which Is Deceptive In My Eyes, But What Ever,, I Called SRT And They Told Me To Go Back To The Dealer, No Help There.

If the vehicle is coded correctly, there has to be either a jumper we are missing for the subs, or there is a different amp, as obviously the subs are not getting power. Can someone with a 2016 viper with the 18 speaker system from the factory check to be sure they have the same amp?
roadrunner
12-18-2015, 12:30 PM
Yes the amp is identical between the 12 and 18 speaker setups... the difference is what EQ the amp is set to. And that comes in from the Sales codes that are loaded from the dealer tool. If the 3rd and 4th subs are off-line, the EQ is in 12 speaker mode. I think 12 speaker is RC5 sales code. 18 speaker is RCA sales code. The ACR non-external amp speaker system is RC8.
The subwoofer amplifier channel outputs are disabled when the 12 channel EQ is set. You can see there is no audio on those channels right at the amp... same amp in a 18 speaker car, and the additional outputs go live.
A district service manager showed on a tool only the factory service mangers have called is think "CDA?" that an 18 speaker car has "Cabin Equalization Curve Number" set to "Viper System 2 (Harman Class D)", and on a 12 speaker car it is "Viper System 1 (Harman Class D)", and finally on an ACR with the three speaker system it said "2-Speaker Base (Race car) (ZD)"
Now thats not something the average dealer can even see... so I'm not sure how you do it without getting regional support involved???
The jumper under the dash by the steering column is just for looping the headunit outputs directly to the dash speakers... the other position of the jumper removes the loop and sends headunit output to the amp inputs, and the amp outputs to the speaker locations. This jumper system appears only on vehicles built with the RC8 (3 speaker) audio. It appears they were preparing for a future Mopar kit...

Well, even without all the "subs" working, this is still a worthwhile improvement over the 3 dash speakers, to keep it in perspective.....
By the way, this was my solution to the sub issue, even after buying the speaker upgrade.
But something to keep I mind, to anyone considering installing a stand alone sub in the hatch; At certain frequencies, at elevated volumes, the hatch itself will rattle noticeably due to the sound pressure levels in the hatch area, something you won't have to worry about with the factory pieces behind the seats.

Sure seems simpler if they would have just had 18 speaker stereo as standard equipment for all. No options! Glad someone is documenting what to do. Most 14's I am looking at used, have standard 12 speaker system and I would sure want to have the 18 speaker in it eventually.

I think that they thought that they were making a statement about the ACR being a race car. Looks like they didn't read their market quite right. They should have made the speaker un-delete be an option. That way people could have a version one step lower than a hardcore version.

sort of interesting that the speaker upgrade kit is $569 and it cost $2000 for the sound system upgrade from the factory. I wonder how much the dealer charges to upgrade the sales code in the radio to activate the 18 speaker equalization.

hey roadrunner or anyone else, was looking around the rear of the trunk, and found one jumper not connected that has masking tape on it. Found a picture of a car with the amp installed, and its connected to what appears to be a distribution block of some sort. This jumper is actually required in order for the mag ride / adcm controller to be recognized by the vehicle. I'm betting it's also what allows the AMP to communicate as well. Because the SRT models with Track Pack have this jumper plugged in and they don't have mag ride.
