They say the Viper isn't built for drag racing. That being said, I'm still the first one to run 10s in a Gen 5 Viper, as of today :)

Race in cold weather at a track rental ;). Just kidding, congrats Tony great driving. Was this on stock rubber or drag radials?
Never mind just read on Motorhed it was on a drag radial. Great runs, glad to see the car took the abuse no problem.
That's doing some good work, right there.
Congrats on the accomplishment!

I have had a few days with 15,16,17 passes but never that many! Good job!

Nice job.

Great driving. Was a little cold today, but not too bad. Maybe a little bit faster if it was 5 degrees colder. Great video. Thanks for sharing.

Nice, so what was the solution for the IAT issues?
No solution. Just 50f temps outside. I never let the car idle, and did 50 mph on the return road to keep radiator cool.

Congrats! Beautiful Viper.
Curious on driving around the water box and not doing a more complete burnout to warm up the drag radials? I've heard that was a good technique on stock tires but not on the DR's?

Nah. It heals itself when you let it cool. I got my number, and set the bar high. No need to take this one drag racing again. Back to road racing.

I treated these more like regular radials. 27-28 psi also. Burnouts heat the clutch up too much, had to manage that heat in order to save it for the launch, instead.

Did it best 130 mph?

Did it best 130 mph?
129.38 was highest mph. It would run 128-129 when cool, then do 127 when hot-lapping it.

I wonder if a clutch/flywheel assembly better suited for hard launches would get you down to 10.7? Wasn't BBG working on something like that?
Either way, awesome driving and congrats. I bet you wouldn't have had near as much fun had the car been an auto and it just did it first try.

Better clutch/fly might make it easier to launch, but I don't see times improving much. 1.67 60' times are pretty difficult to hit on a radial tire, manual trans, independent axle car. The trans could use a more aggressive 1st gear ratio. The 2.26 gear isn't good for drag racing, the previous gens had 2.66 first gear ratios, easier to launch.
I added the external video of the pass to the original article, btw. You can see my clutch smoke pretty clearly on it. LOL

Congrats Tony...you are THE MAN!! Was your pretty Viper driving wife with you, and did she do any runs?

Too cold for her, haha. She doesn't drive it as hard as I do, except on the highways. I drive like a grandpa on the highway, and hard at the track. :)

Great run , Tony ---respect the thought process of driving like a grandpa on the highway , and letting loose on the track ( right place to do it )!

Great job Tony! you are a brave GenV owner for sure ;-) Can't wait to see what a car with Headers will do, we definitely need you or Jack on them to get a worthy number. Nice video also.

You know, I drove a Gen IV with stock gearing and I may be alone on this island, but I really felt SRT should have kept that gearing. It results in good 0-150 times (I know, I know, but it is good advertising) and it just felt right on the low end. The Gen IV has run 10's on street tires weighing more with less power so maybe it would make the car better. Anyways, just my opinion. I don't even think swapping the transmission and final drive gear to the 2010 design can be done anyways with the PCM how it is, so I guess we'll never know.

I blame the weaksauce 0-60 mph bench racers for our crappy first gear. They did it so that the Gen 5 could achieve 60 mph without having to shift. I'd much rather have the 2010 gear set, even with the current 3.55 rear gears. Trans swap wouldn't be a big deal, the car reads mph from the wheel speed sensors, not trans.
Mark J: Find me a header sponsor and I'll do a full install write-up and dyno, track test etc. :)

Great work Tony! I would have loved the combo of the Gen IV 3.07 rear gear and the revised 5th and 6th gear rations from the 2013 in the Gen V.

This. I was spoiled with my last car that had those ratio's. I am going to do this with my ACR for sure.

Would be nice if someone could do this on their Gen V and do a comparison.

Gentlemen,
Done!! Our first BBG Viper G5 Competition Clutch Kits are finished and installing shortly into several G5 Viper's who's owners are well known and respected throughout the forums and the Industry.. With continued support from the Boyz at SRT, we nailed it!!
Just a few quick points then I'll jump of this thread because Tony really deserves the spot light for showing the Viper Nation and others that G5 is bad ass!!
One major problem with the factory G5 clutch kit is inherent in it's clam shell clutch pack design.. One clutch disc spins free and releases in a traditional way and the second disc is incapsulated in the pressure plate which under extreme conditions will mushroom and stick., resulting in notchy, burning (smokey) inconsistent pedal and shift operation.. Our BBG G5 clutch kits solve this and many more issues.. There's obviously much more to talk about and I'll start a detail thread with photos shortly..
Any questions please feel free to contact me directly Toddy @ (916) 505-9026
Great Job Tony!!

Probably not a good idea to speed anyway when you're getting honked.
