View Full Version : Pic request: the corner of your hood

I find myself in need of a picture. If you've been following along, you know that the hood of my '97 GTS was shattered when the previous owner crashed it. When I repaired the bottom side, I replicated the work that had already been done. Now that I have the hood back on the car, I don't think it's shaped right. I'm getting some interference between the front corner of the hood and the headlight. I know my headlights aren't in exactly the right place either, but it seems like I'll have to move them a whole lot to clear the corner of the hood. So, I'd like to see what that corner of the hood is actually supposed to look like. I need a side shot of the edge of the hood. Can someone please post a picture of this area:

My car is factory and my hood looks like that, was touching and rubbing on my headlight in that exact spot as well. I just turned up the rubber bumper knob under hood until it stopped touching. Made the rest of the hood gaps on that side look like crap but I did not want to deal with it at the time and truthfully, I don't even know where to start to correct the issue. I don't want to start in one spot and then never get the rest right. The rest of my hood is perfect everywhere except touching the headlight on that little piece and the gap on that headlight.

see if there is someone regionally in your club that can help you get it aligned. You will be happy you did.

What gets aligned? Is it a headlight issue, a hood issue, another panel that gets aligned better first? I mean there is a reason I got my electrical engineering degree and not a cert from Wyo-tech. I such at bodywork and paint.

Here is a bit of info on the process.

And using the bump stops to force the hood off the headlight is a great way to possibly stress crack the hood. Those stops are meant to align with the lower travel as set by the latches etc, not push back against them.

Hey thanks Dave! Guess it is time to grab my balls and take it on.

Guess it is time to grab my balls and take it on.
The first time I aligned mine, I spend somewhere around 10 hours doing it. Lots of take apart, adjust, reassemble to check, and take apart again. It's not hard, just tedious. Dave's thread spells out the whole thing pretty well.
