Morning gents,
Currently going through the 1 of 1 program. Awesome experience! Kate @ SRT deserves a raise.

Here's the deal:
I sent the paint code I want to use for my car. It's a PPG paint code.
Prefix sent me the two plastic cards and car form which were much too dark and way too much metallic.
No problem.
I went to local PPG paint supplier and had a card sprayed and a tester bottle mixed. This color was correct.
I sent the recipe and more info I got from PPG to Prefix and waited for round 2 to arrive.
Round 2 shows up.
This is where it gets a little confusing.
This time I was sent a plastic card that had a sticky note on it saying something like "this is the color we mixed from the PPG paint sprayed by Prefix"
2 plastic paint cards and the car form were included which were clearly the wrong color again... Not the same color as I have sent and not the color prefix sprayed themselves based off of the PPG color.
I emailed SRT back saying "the little plastic card is correct, the rest isn't"
I was told that Prefix can not match the color exactly as PPG paint and Azko-Nobel paints are different manufactures so it won't be exact.

Call me crazy but isn't a color... A color? What happens if a car with this color comes into Prefix? They wouldn't be able to paint match to it? Very strange.

Anyways my final resort is to take the correct color (sprayed by Prefix with PPG paint) and have it "chromatically matched" at a local paint store to a akzo-Nobel color and then send that information to Prefix.

I don't want a "close enough" color. I'm not dealing with some crazy odd ball candy metallic pearl tri-coat... It's just a color!

Any one have a better idea? Any way I could get the correct color translated into something that Prefix can match and spray?
I've used up 2 out of 3 of my car form color confirmations. This is my last shot.

Post photos of all the samples in daylight, so we can all see if you are just being overly anal or something. :)

Haha! No. I've looked and I've taken pictures on my own in 3 different types of lighting which I have forwarded to SRT and Prefix. Everyone agrees the colors don't match hence the conversation about azko paint isn't the same as PPG paint so the colors will never be exact. There's big differences.

I don't want to post the color... It's super top secret!

Maybe ask for a credit on the paint supply, and just send them the PPG paint to use?

Strip one of the autoforms you received and get it painted at your local PPG shop but document he primer coats being used underneath as well. The primer coat will affect the final color as well. Did not see you talking about the primer color or coats underneath.

As a custom 1of 1 car, there should be no concerns for a 90% match. If not exact paint manufacturer, there could be some variation, at least 10%.

I don't think it is that easy Crazy. I had a 97 Blue/White GTS and had the rear bumper repainted. It was repainted with PPG by a very good paint shop. They used the correct code but the color was a little off and it didn't have the same metallic flake look to it. Kind of hard to explain but the metallic was more spread out than the factory paint job. After doing research on the web it appeared that the factory used Asko Nobel paint and many who had parts repainted using this paint didn't have a color match issue and everyone that used PPG did have the issue.

Even though a color is a color etc... The make of the paint, and the exact process it's laid down under will impact the 'tint' of that color. Even to the point of having an additional coat of base or even clear can make it appear a little darker or a shade off.

I'm more disturbed they would only give 3 opportunities to a buyer....extenuating circumstances should be considered....especially with the known ridiculous lack of customer service after a Viper purchase.

8,000 colors....

And not 1 will do.

LOL.

I feel your pain though; but really, just let them get as close as possible with the base color tone, I doubt you'll be disappointed once it's sprayed out on the car.

You find it "disturbing" that a customer only has 3 chances to pick a color?

I love this forum.

Well here's the plan. SRT (who still remains awesome to deal with) is going to ship me the paint chip books so I can match the sample myself to actual paint chips.

This will work perfectly.

They even offered to ship the books to me while overseas. I declined and asked for them to be shipped to my home address so my wife can deal with my billion requests for pictures and opinions.

Cool! Glad to hear the service has been good

That's awesome; that's about the best you can ask for.
