Very cool video.

Anyone else notice the diffuser fins are not parallel to each other? They fan outward.

<--- apparently obsessed with the diffuser right now.

Darius, thanks for posting!! The initial '08 ACR test was 1:29, looks like he did better than that on a lap coming out of the pits vs. full speed on the front straight.

Maybe Chris hasn't ever been there, cones were set up at various points on the track to show him the best line.

What was interesting is that they created a kink at the end of the back straight with the cones before turn 8. That's not the way to enter 8. Maybe they wanted him to scrub speed before the turn? I'm doing about 135 there, who knows, he may have been at 145??

A bunch of the SoCal guys will be there 10/3-10/4 with West Coast racing. They run a good event and only $245 for both days. Willow is a great viper track.

Take care and thanks for posting!! Mike

Awesome videos! You can literally see the aero working in how well the car is planted throughout. Looks amazing. I cannot wait to get mine!

They do this on the Gen III and IV as well.

Sweet. Can't wait to check them out at Laguna Seca. It would be mind blowing if it beats the Porsche 918 time 1:29xx.

More downforce than is legal in imsa and more power than is legal in imsa.. And with the latest BOPs not much heavier either. Anyone excited yet? ;)

That would make it hard to argue for a discount. Hopefully we have our cars before that!

Seriously though, what are the freakin cones for? Chris is an excellent driver he don't need no stinkin' cones! By the way I did beat Chris' time on the South Course of VIR in the One Lap of America once. He was in the 08 ACR. Of course he went out early on a completely wet track while I went out on a completely dry track. But I'll take it! Every other event he cleaned my clock and everyone else's.

Maybe they were letting journalists drive the car, probably didn't want them going through 9 at 150mph.

Yes it just left Detroit today! Can't wait! It will be my daily driver, ACR for the weekends and 240z when I want to piss my neighbors off.

I guess that day was a corporate track day for Dodge and Fiat, found another video of a journalist who was invited to attend the event. Boring video but he gives a little info on what they got to do that day.

I thought that the cones cost him a ton of time. What ACRVPRC said is exactly right. They took him WAY off line in the back straight.

That's how they work
The diffuser increases in volume along its length, creating a void that has to be filled by the air passing under the body. This venturi effect means that the flow is accelerated through the throat of the diffuser, creating the desired low pressure, then gradually returned to the same velocity at which it joined the wake. The angle or slope of the diffuser is also important, the diffuser must have a gradual change of angle to prevent flow separation from its roof and sides. (McBeath, 1998, Competition Car Downforce)

So when will we see some ACR diffuser fins form you?:)

The 08 ACR only did a 1:29 at WSIR? Sounds kind of slow..

Stuntman, I remembered the time since Willow is a track I run. (and my PB is 1:31)

Searched google;

1:29.33 is this time it ran when it debuted in a test set up by Road & Track magazine. It was the cover story and the red/black ACR pictured. Steve Millen was the driver. (Found story links but they don't work). That time was compared to an '06 viper coupe which ran 1:33.30 in an old test by???? So the story also said the '08 ACR was 4 seconds faster than the last viper.

Found a link to the best (street legal) times at Willow. #1 is a Porsche 918 by Pobst @ 1:23.54. #6 G4 ACR Dominick Farnbacher at 1:26.00

1:26 sounds more like it. The 1:29 just sounded a bit slow for the ACR (on Sport Cups?) When a 997 GT3 does a 1:30 there, and the ACR is a much faster car. IIRC, Erik Messley did high 28s in his Gen2 on R888 (or R6s) with just springs, shocks and smooth tubes, which is really impressive.

The '08 in the Road & Track article was completely stock (on sport cups) Chrysler sent their engineers there to set up the suspension, but the car was completely stock.

Erik is extremely fast in a viper and knows the SoCal tracks very well. Wouldn't be surprised to see him match or slight beat that G4 1:26. He's too good, I've been waiting 30 plus days to get a date from him to set up my suspension.

Ya, not sure how hard Millen would have pushed it. DF is a fast pro so I'm sure that time is representative, 4 seconds faster than a pro in a 997 GT3. I wonder what the G5 ACR would turn. 21-22s?

Fastestlaps is not the most reliable source, but this is what they have:

1. 1:23.5 Porsche 918
2. 1:25.0 C7 ZO6
...
6. 1:26.0 Gen IV ACR

There are other cars on the list, take a look:

Let's take the ACRs down there, Chris. I've only tracked Big Willow once in the Camaro, had a blast. It's all about big balls. I don't know what peak speed the ACR could hit in turns 8 and 9, perhaps 130+ MPH. I don't remember the track well enough to have a good idea, but we will be hauling!

Chris, this is a great track for Vipers!! Not too technical and two long straights to open it up. On the front, with your aero it won't take you to long to get in the 150 mph plus range before you brake into turn 1. On that back straight you'll get up to 120 plus before the sweeper.

Only $245.00 for both days, 5 sessions each day. West Coast runs a good event and they like the viper group. this is the best deal you'll ever get for Willow. Sign up for the Red/Race group, lot's less traffic and you'll be fine. Hope to see you there!! A number of the SoCal guys will be there too. Mike

here's a video of a couple of laps with Ben and me, red group is fairly wide open
