The steering has gone heavy at idle as from today. Like I've lost p/s. There is no fluid leak.

Then, when I apply more revs, the steering goes back to normal, but then the second i come off the revs the steering goes heavy again. Almost undrivable.

The pump, reservoir were replaced 4 months back, worked amazing. The pulley is the upgraded aluminium. This literally happened about an hour ago luckily as I was putting her to sleep.

It whines however when I try and turn when I apply revs.

Is this a pump issue as its only 4 months old...?

Sounds like a weak pump.

I would be giving the Vendor that sold you the part a call! Is that the one you got from Snakeoyl?

Pump... I actually rebuilt mine with a kit just to see if I could do it. It was an interesting project but all in all not worth the time/effort. Yeah....it worked for about 4 months and then started with the symptoms you describe. Scary isn't it!!! So I just swapped it for a rebuilt and wala...good as new. They are pretty cheap to swap so it not like its a big investment.

I believe Cardon was the rebuilt unit I picked-up. Pretty common. Lots of auto parts suppliers have the same. Napa made me turn in a core, no one else did.

Correct mark, I've emailed Steve there and will wait for his reply. Really not looking forward to mothering Carl about this :op the viper is off the road until further notice! Thanks for the replies Ellow, I think it might need a replacement.

Cardone is the largest supplier/rebuilder of steering components on the market(as well as water pumps, brakes, etc). Many auto parts stores carry Cardone products, often under the house brand. Even many "factory rebuilt" dealer parts are reboxed Cardones. If you Google it, you'll find lots of people complaining about Cardone parts, but for the most part they aren't any better or worse than any other brand.
