Just curious if there are any negative reasons to stay away from 2013 srt?

Thanks
Josh

I have had two 2013's and loved them both. I have only had minor issues, for example the front facia to hood gap needed to be adjusted. Dealer took care of that under warranty and brought it to factory specs.

I would not hesitate to buy a '13 if it is a good deal and is the color and spec that you want.

I, personally, would always avoid a first or even second year production. Still no guarantees either way

No real differences between my '13 and my '14. I'd consider another '13 for the right price, especially since they are still under warranty.

On my 2nd '13, and have had no problems with either...

Mine was produced in 2013, nothing major to report. There are a few unlucky Vipers with engine failures but all were addressed and replaced under warranty.

Same here, 2013 and running good with no major issues. Had a small issues with the AC and the window switch and was taken care of under warranty in no time. Good luck !

I think 2013-2014 "SRT" brand Vipers will become collector's items in a few years since SRT is no longer a brand anymore.

Haha I hope you're right. I absolutely love mine: 2013 GTS. It's been flawless since day one. I can honestly say, I have never owned, riden in, or driven a car that even comes close.

Edit - One more thing. I don't think I've ever walked away from that car without looking back, at least once, and usually twice.

Until I traded for my 15 I had 20,000 trouble free miles on my 13!! A ROCK of an automobile!!!

I've had my 13 almost a year now, no major issues. It's a great car, don't hesitate to buy a 13 or 14, if it's the right one jump on it!

Did all those engine failures on the 13's happen relatively quick (less than 500 miles)? I'd hate to buy a low mile 13 with about 1500 miles and have the motor pop later.

Nope. I've heard of some happening to second owners with higher miles, but still covered under warranty. Although, I assume that is on a case by case basis.

I cannot part with my 2013, I love it. I have a 2016 on order as well.

Biggest issues with 2013s were on the early units:
Defective airbag assembly that would cause horn to honk. Dealer can fix.
Rear window would shatter when defroster turned on. This happened on a few of the very early units. I think only Launch Edition blue/whites and the red ones that rolled off the line first. Also fixable by dealer.

For these reasons I'd prefer a late-2013 build. Still, I would not hesitate if you find a golden deal on a 2013.

Just traded a 13 for a 15, car was perfect.

Any rumors about motors popping might be self induced. The G5 Viper motor can still lose oil pressure in high rpm, high G, high speed corners using sticky tires. Oil pressure gauge is damped enough that it may not detect those pressure drops.

Zero issues with mine. 4k miles. No complaints and I've seen nothing "better" about the build quality of the 15's I've had parked directly next to mine.

Yikes, hadn't heard this about oil pressure. I run slicks and we have some high speed sweepers at tracks in CA. I have an ACR on order, if there are ways to improve this I hope it has been addressed on the ACR.

First I've heard as well. Thought this Gen 3 issue went away with the new oil pickup introduced in the Gen 4.

Not a 2013, but when I was at Chuckwalla race track a couple months ago, there was a guy there with a 2014 Orange TA and he said the motor blew and he was racing it for the first time after getting the motor replaced under warranty. He blew the new motor up the first session.

I know of 20+ with mine being the lowest with 6 miles and others blowing up anywhere from 1400 miles to 4800...

I know they changed a few minor things like suspension controls and what not on 2014 GTS model.... Also be aware that the seat height is different between those models too bc they put the airbag crap under the drivers seat in the 2013... I've driven all years so far, and that was really the only big concern for me bc I'm 6'5". I'm told it can be moved to lower the seat. I say roll the dice, buy it and get extended warranty. Good luck!

Geez I hate hearing stuff like this. Makes me want to find something with higher miles(5k+) when I am ready to buy one. I know it's covered under warranty but who the hell wants to go through all that?

You're worrying about nothing. "20+ engines blowing" from a guy on the Internet. Cmon man take it with a pinch of salt. Haven't seen a proper document case of a viper engine blowing up yet.

Honestly, the less you are on the Internet, the more you enjoy the car. Then every single issue anyone ever had isn't blown into a "make sure you buy a used viper with more than 5000 miles or the engine will blow!"

Had an issue with my 14 ,I was doing over 220 kmh, oil pressure gauge was up high and blinked red, I slowed down, haven't had an issue since

Mine is still going on but almost over. Others have had nothing but a nightmare. It just depends.

Believe me, I have done my research. I have also been contacted by multiple people from this forum that prefer to remain nameless. Throw in the fact that you have this new car and it is a absolute crap shoot with the type of service you will receive. They wanted to tow mine to a dealer that was not SRT and would have sat outside for the remaining weekend because that was the dealer within a 21 mile range. Mind you, this is a car that was driven 1 mile.

Dodge service is the weakest link. Not all dealers obviously, but the majority of them.

Bought my 2013 last October from Bill P with 7200 miles. By the time it goes on for annual PA state inspection in October, it will have 10,000 miles on it. I love driving this car. No major issues: I have to have the recalls done (airbag, Uconnect, and the door handle). Fit and finish is decent, there are a couple odd panel gaps that some of the early build cars have, but I can live with it. The passenger door panel is loose, but I'll have that taken care of when the recall is done, as that has to come off anyway.

I love the car, but bought an extended warranty at time of purchase, just for peace of mind. I think it's a requirement on ANY expensive car. Good insurance.

If you find a '13 you like, I wouldn't hesitate to go for it.

Don't mislead the OP please.

The Viper is the best car I've ever driven and I'd buy one again in a heartbeat, but truth is, a very small number of earlier models had engine failures that were addressed and replaced under warranty.

Here's another reason why the 2013 SRT Viper is the year to buy - The SRT® Viper earns ‘Collectible Car of the Future’ honor.

http://www.drivesrt.com/news/2014/02/srt_viper_nahc_award.html

Prices for a mint condition low mileage 2013 have dipped in the low $70's, why would anyone buy a 2015 "Dodge" brand for $20-30k more?

Whether its an SRT or a "Dodge" makes about 0 difference. Same car.

Find one you want. Drive the wheels off it with a huge smile on your face.

Also i guess Im lucky. 13. No door handle issue. Only minor problem was my drivers door weatherstrip which I replaced with the later/revised one to get rid of wind noise.
