ACR adaptability for street driving .. anybody know?

For those few times when you're looking to not go 150 at the track, lol, do we have any input yet on the street ability of the ACR? With the suspension, damp, compression, dual mode settings and height adjustment, I'm wondering if street driving will be horrible, meh, ok, just fine, or what. Thx

I think it's hard to extrapolate this from the info we have so far. My take, from what i've read and heard is it's going to be rough, but not as rough and un-driveable as some have said. Everyone's tolerance for a stiff ride is i'm sure drastically different.

Agreed. It's a purpose built track car, some will love this and some will not. In Detroit last summer, I rode with Bill P in his Hardcore ACR on a cruise and to the track with NO complaints, but we all understand that's not everyone's cup of tea. If you look at the spring rates alone, that tells you a lot about the responsiveness in the ride, add to it a larger front wheel/tire. We are excited to get our first group of ACRs at Tomball, and I'll do a hands-on write up on them. Understandably, lots of our customers want to see these cars and have some questions answered before they jump into one.

I don't think the suspension will feel any rougher on the street than a Gen 4 ACR. If the new shocks are higher quality than the old KW's, then they may have even less stiction and ride even better. The ride will away's be firm, but smooth and controlled.

The unknown fact is the new Kumho tires....those might be a rough riding, then again they may not. Tires are going to be a major part of how the car rides on the street......we'll all know soon enough.

Nope. It doesn't. Just rebound and compression manual adjustment.

I don't believe it does. That would be nice though. I've been driving around in race mode only so I'm not shocked by how stiff this acr is going to be.

Courtney wrote they had some ACR's in inspection - so I have to assume they'll be delivered within a month - but who knows :)

These are the ACRs that were ordered without the extreme package. The orders were put in a good while before the extreme's became available. Nevertheless, the same suspension.

We have 5 now in final inspection. These are indeed regular ACRs which were ordered as soon as the banks opened. Same everything except Aero. I'm sure someone here will correct this, but they were put in maybe a month or little longer before the banks opened for the Extremes. With only 3 Vipers coming down the line per day, we honestly thought the wait would be longer. There is a large amount of interest in the non-extreme ACRs, it will be great to have hands on both production cars when they come.

I am really curious to see how the new ACR rides with the MCS suspension. I would be surprised if it wasn't very livable as I already had 600/900 springs on my TA and they were just fine for road trips (drove the car to NVE 1 from OK). It will interesting to track the car and fine tune the spring rate further. I am still skeptical that 600 is enough spring rate for the front of the ACR.

I agree fully that this will be a great option, SRT chose the 600's because the car turns better in slow to medium corners where there is not as much down force, but you are probably right that the fronts could go higher for a dedicated track car. I had tried up to 700 on the front of my old 08' and without any aero, I settled on 550 for autocross and track so the car would turn better. We have ACRX's that run 700/1500 and even they ride remarkably well over the bumpy roads and soak up sharp impacts like no other shock does.

We are excited to have JD's ACR Extreme and his willingness to experiment with rates further for me since I don't make nearly enough to have a Gen5 of my own, just your humble servant :-)

Brian Makse's review of the ACR at VIR was linked to the forum a few weeks ago. He spoke to a few of our club members at a track DE shortly after that, and his impression over curbs at VIR led him to believe it would have a pretty compliant ride on the street. His concern for street use was only about ground clearance.

If the shocks are decent, adjusting the shocks to low damping rates will produce a very acceptable ride. As noted above higher spring rates on the MCS's work fine. Best.,Allan
